Got an offer! So excited!

Hey, that's awesome! I also received and accepted an offer at Illinois Masonic. Are you moving to the city? I'm going to be moving to the city because I don't want the long commute, but man... I'm nervous. So many new and exciting things happening! Good luck to you and feel free to message me if you'd like another new friend in the area! :)

Hi! I'm going to interview for the RN residency program at Illinois Masonic next week... How was the interview? Any tips on how to prepare??

Thanks in advance!

Hi! Congrats on getting an interview! I know it's a pretty competitive program.

I am currently in the residency program and I started back in August... I love it so far. Interview wise, there was 2 parts- one with a panel of 3 managers on various units of the hospital, and the other was more informal and informational with HR. The part with the managers was not as intimidating as you may expect, they were all very friendly. I remember it being shorter than I had expected, maybe 20-30 mins long. And basically all of their questions were the type where you explain what you did or would do in a given situation. They want specific examples. "Tell me about a time where you demonstrated teamwork... Leadership...Or patient advocacy..." Those types of questions.

Feel free to message me any more questions you have! Best of luck :)

Thank you for responding so quickly! And congrats on getting into the program!! :)

Just a few more questions -- Did they ask any questions on why I picked certain departments? Did they give scenario questions on what I would do on the floor/ how to prioritize my patients?

Also, do you know how many people they interviewed and accepted?

Yes they definitely asked why you chose the selected units as your top choices. I believe there might have been a scenario question or two, but I don't recall a prioritization question.

The cohort I'm in is bigger than they usually are- we have 17 nurses in it and they said they interviewed around 40-50. The cohort after mine I think has about 10-12 nurses in it.

Let me know how it goes!

Oh my... I'm not sure how to prepare right now

And thank you for all your help!! Much appreciated!

Hi! Just curious what unit you got an interview for. I hear that is a pretty competitive program so congratulations on the interview!

Congrats on accepting a position! I really like working at Masonic and the residency program is great. The long orientation really helps you feel prepared for when you're on your own. Always ask questions, everyone is super helpful.

Which unit will you be on?

Thanks CourtBSN. I will be on med surg (nights) that's all I know. I start on the 22nd of Feb. That's why I applied because I heard the residency program really helps new nurses a lot and the people are great and helpful. I am taking my NCLEX in 3 weeks so It all comes down to that. Did they tell you right away which unit you will be working on or you have to go through the process where to fit in
