IL RN license to WI license help

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

Hello

Does anyone have experience in gaining an RN license in Wisconsin and how difficult (or not) it is? I am looking to relocate from Chicago to the Milwaukee area within the next year or so and would appreciate ANY help! I have never relocated before!

I will continue to research this process online as well. Thanks!

Look to see if Illinois is a compact state. There are a group of states that have entered into an agreeemtn to reciprocate licenses. Other than that, I had no problem getting my license in Wisconsin once I moved here. If you have no strikes against you, it should be open and shut.

IL isn't a compact state, so you will have to endorse your license. (Actually, even if both states participated in the compact, you would still have to endorse your license if you move your primary residence to WI.)

Contact the WI BON to find out their requirements. You will have to have a form filled out by IDPR stating that you hold an active license in good standing, and have that form sent directly from IDPR to the WI BON. There is a fee for that.

Also, if IL is your state of original licensure, you may want to consider keeping your IL license active. It is inexpensive and easy to do, and will benefit you if you ever move again and need to endorse your license to another state.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for the responses. A lot of good information. I will follow your advice!
