If I won't get an A, should I drop the class?

Hi,

I am trying to switch careers into the nursing field. I hope to be accepted into an accelerated BSN program in FL, but I know that they are highly competitive and that your prerequisites are weighed heavily when determining your acceptance.

The classes that I'm taking are the easier ones (Nutrition & Developmental Psych) , but I took them online and started a new job so they've been fairly difficult to keep up with. I typically excel in the traditional classroom setting. I have a BS from UF with a 3.5 upper division GPA & am fairly certain that I really need to do well (like 3.8 or higher) on my nursing pre-reqs in order to be accepted into a school here.

So, which do you think is best: withdrawing from the online classes and taking traditional classes in the hopes of making As or sticking with the online classes and earning low-Bs?

If your school does differentiate between B, B+ or B-.. a low B or high B won't matter. ;) If you ace the rest, I don't think dropping will be that huge a deal. Some schools consider a "W" a first grade so they will view you as taking the classes twice.. I think 2 Bs looks better than 2 repeated classes.. but that is just opinion.

If you already have your bachelors, try going into a graduate program and get your RN on the way...thats what I would do.

Some accelerated nursing programs will ask you on their application, do you have any withdraws and if so, please explain? Just be aware of that if you plan to withdraw.

Before you withdraw, find out how the programs you are interested in view Ws. I can tell you at my school, Ws can count against you.

Why are you setting yourself up to do bad in the class? I would stick with the classes, because as you know ABSN programs are very intense. Some people are capable of working while in the program. This will condition you to prioritize and keep on top of your classes.

Every accelerated program is different and they are competitive. I got accepted into my ABSN program and don't have a 4.0. In fact, a few people who had a 4.0 prerequisite GPA didn't get accepted into my program because their undergrad GPA was less than a 3.0. So a few factors is heavily weighed.
