Ok I have been out of work for a while and have a PRN position that I NEED TO KEEP
two floors share supplies and that makes me slow
I want to buy a BP cuff (automatic) that reads quickly and is not tempermental- I dont want to have to get it positioned JUUUUST RIGHT:angryfire
Also a thermometer the pts are not keeping their mouths closed so do I go temporal or ear?
and an oximeter?
and other suggestions of things to buy?
... dont worry about them objecting -- they passed state with flying colors, it wont be a problem
I read other posts and know most of you hate this stuff but I have 41 pts to myself
Out of 41 maybe 37 are black so on my 9 am med pass I have about 30 bps to get daily plus the meds plus everything else.
plz add brands or links

That's a lot of money, but I can see why you'd do it. Don't leave your stuff at the facility or they will adopt it as their own.
Temporal artery thermometers have been inaccurate in my experience, but if you're working with old folks they have to remove and replace their hearing aids when you use the tympanics. Apparently your facility isn't too concerned with quality control- I'd got for teh temporal artery (more expensive too).

Just wondering why you threw in that 37 are black? Not that I think you meant anything by it, just missed why this is important

Black people have a higher tendency to have high blood pressure.
The other respondent was right on!
I thought I was making my self clear when I associated the number of Black patients to the number of bps.
But sorry if I wasnt clear - there is also a lg number of glucoscans- on mostly the Black residents (which is most of my floor)
and just to really calm you down - I am black too
Oh no I wasn't upset. Just really wondering because we don't have much of a black population here. 97 % white and some native americans

OMG, 41 patients that you're responsible for! I don't get how that works. Do you have any MA's or CNA's that you delegate to? If so, why aren't they getting the vital signs with that many people? You have my sympathy, I couldn't do it.

N/M reread the OP....
One moment while I gather the links.
OMRON auto cuffs, I prefer the cheapo wrist cuff the HEM-650. Can be found for about $50 at Walmart. I changed the settings so it will take the BP no matter the angle or height, just have to assess the situation.

Exergen temporal thermometers, fast and accurate. Around $30

Pulse OX, personally I would recommend the Nonin Onyx II but since I doubt you want to drop $300-$400 this is my second choice for $50

When you said black the first thing that popped into my head was ugh tons of DMII, and BP.
If you said Natives I would have thought ESRD, DMII, ETOH.
Everyone forgets there really are genetic dispositions to particular diseases. When I hear Sickle Cell I don't think Chinese lol.
