I have a huge issue on my plate. Turning to other nurses for advice! Ultimately, I know I will make the best decision for me, but any words of wisdom as to how I should handle this??
I am currently working as an OR nurse, ready to transition into an ICU role to one day become a CRNA. I work for a level 1 trauma center..in the past 2 years in the OR Ive met a lot of people, learned a lot, and now ready to challenge myself in other ways.
I interviewed for a position in a MICU and was offered a job on the spot...I have heard mixed things about the unit...some people telling me there are management issues, etc. Ultimately I was excited for an offer and willing to see for myself and make the most of this positon. The day I was to call and accept the offer the Trauma/Surgical ICU called me for an interview. This job is a great foundation for CRNA school, a few employees I know there say they love it, it relates pretty closely to my current job, and I am really Hoping I get an offer.I was able to push back my answer regarding the MICU position and I interviewed today for trauma and it went well!
But now what? It's time for me to give MICU an answer and I have no idea if Trauma will offer me a job. The longer I wait, the more worried I am that MICU will recant their offer. I don't want to burn bridges but also don't want to hold off on something that is uncertain. What would you do?

This is quite a pickle. I guess from my (new grad, also CRNA-hopeful) point of view, any ICU is going to give you the required experience for school. The main foundation for it is in the critical thinking, drips, and autonomy - all of which are covered in either of these units. Regardless, you need experience to get into school.
I would be honest with the ICU that already made you an offer and tell them that you're waiting to hear from another job (if they're in the same hospital, I'm guessing the managers talk to each other?). In the end, it sounds like this T/SICU is where you want to be. I'd wait it out.
Hopefully this reply is a moot point and your decision's already been made! Good luck either way :)

I would call the SICU and talk to the manager that interview you and explain to her exactly what you explained to us. Tell her your goals, your school choices, and that you were offered a position in the MICU that you didn't want to turn down unless you are able to come to the SICU. She/He will understand. If they wanted to offer you the position they will be thrilled. Trust me. Communication is always key, plus it looks professional on your character. Make sure you also explain your goals to the MICU manager as well that way when you decline her offer she understands why and will respect you for following your dreams and being honest.
