Want to move to TX and get licensed there. Will I be able to take the NCLEX in TX and apply for a license in TX? Or will I have to take the NCLEX in TN and apply for a license in TX?
Thanks,
Melanie

NCLEX is give world wide.
Not specific to any state or country

You can take NCLEX in Tennessee and, once you receive your TN license, you can apply for licensure by endorsement in Texas.
You can also choose to take NCLEX in Texas.

It doesn't matter. If you're ultimately moving to TX, move and take it there. That'll save you some money in the end. The NCLEX is the exact same test for all 50 states so it doesn't matter which state you take it in. The questions come from the same main pool for everyone anywhere in the US.
Hope it helps and good luck :)

upon graduation you can submit your application for licensure to any state’s board of nursing. when you get your authorization to test you can take the test at any authorized testing center, it does not have to be in the state in which you are applying for licensure.
if you know you are going to relocate to texas after graduation and do not plan on working in tennessee, then apply for initial licensure with the texas board of nursing. if there is a possibility that you might not move immediately then obtain your tennessee license first. since tennessee and texas are both compact states, you should be able to work using your tennessee license for a maximum of 30 days after relocating. this would allow you time to apply for texas licensure, as well as obtain your 120 temporary permit.
if you want to compare the processes, the texas board of nursing website provides information on licensure by endorsement as well as licensure by examination.
whichever route you choose, i would contact the texas board of nursing as soon as possible.
good luck in your future career.

Just remember that the TX BON will have to confirm paperwork with the TN school and that could be an issue. Otherwise, I agree with the above posts.
