Thank you....I know what I want to do and I will do it....I plan on being one of the top in my class too, lol. I'm being positive! I am 30 and I have been considering this option for about 7 years, but circumstances in my life made it hard, but finally I can do it...I look so forward to this....I know that it will not be easy, but who knows what will be going on in this profession by the time I am out of school...I guess I will wait and see...email me anytime.....

Thanks for the input and support I have received from those here, I'm sure I will need it,lol...

It's getting closer to time to register for classes and I am a bit scared, but on the whole I can't wait to get started!

I did not start nursing school until my kids were older and able to stay home by themselves. I am thankful everyday that I was able to be home to hear their first "Mama", to see their first step, to have them cry for me when the strange daycare worker tried to coax them from me. I had to go to work when my baby was 5 months old til 10 months old. Never again.

Welcome Robin

It wil be great to have you aboard. And yes, we do all need to have a place to vent.

Families get tired of hearing it and you rarly have time to vent at work.

I, too, have been a nurse for 25 years. I must like it or I would not have been here this long--right?? It is not my first profession and I do not believe I would care to change.

And again--WELCOME

Hang in there. I have been a nurse since 1978. I love nursing. I have worked on Medical, surgical and have finally made my way to a specialty I love. Dialysis. You will always find a job, you will always be

able to pick and choose your job. You will get paid well, even better if you do registry. Sure, you will work...but it's your attitude that will keep you going. If you want to be a nurse go for it. You will never be poor. It's true nurses can make big bucks, if you don't like an area, try something else don't get stuck in an area you hate. Move on. The possibilities are endless.

I'm going back to school at age 45 to become a nurse. Registration is April 5 for fall semester. Yes, it is scary!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR BEING A NURSE IT HAS ENRICHED MY LIFE IN SO MANY WAYS. ALWAYS REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE BEFORE YOU STARTED THE PROGRAM AND REFLECT ON YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR GOALS, AND REMEMBER TO DO THIS EVERY YEAR YOU WORK AS A RN. THINGS GET BETTER AND YOU'LL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR MOMENTS AND WE GROW WITH EVERY EXPERIENCE WE HAVE IN LIFE GOOD AND BAD. GOOD LUCK

Robin, May God bless you on your choice!! i had wanted to be a nurse since age 5 and have been one now for 25 years - have not regretted a minute! I have worked in many areas of nursing - general med/surg, pediatrics, OB/L&D, cardiac, taught nurse aides, held clinics, home health, hospice and am now a certified chemo/oncology nurse in a busy MD office administering chemo every day. The rewards are many, the pay is not too bad, but the blessings keep coming! It can be heartbreaking, don't get me wrong, but with comassion and a caring, listening heart, it is well worth it! Good luck!

Well, I have been reading through things on this board for days and while I may agree with some I don't agree with others(and before anyone makes a comment about it...I am going into the ADN program, but am not there yet). I have always been somewhat of a so called caregiver....I take care of anyone and everyone around me in one way or another. I have wanted to be a nurse for a very long time and I will be a nurse someday(even after reading some of the comments on this board). There are good things and bad things in any and every profession out there...this is a fact of life, but do any of you feel that you may be "scaring off" potential nursing canditates? I had my mind made up before even coming to this board, but those that don't will probably run screaming after reading some of this...makes it kind of difficult to get more people, lol.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and this is mine. As for money...where I live the best place to work is the Whirpool factory( I work there and make 13 an hour, but I hate it....) That is the best job here so I feel that I don't have alot to lose...I would make more as a nurse and there is a shortage....thats how I look at it. And for those who are visiting here...I think alot of people who post here are airing their frustrations....we all have those...it's alot more fun to air them with people who know what you are talking about than those who don't. So some may have a chip on their shoulder....someday they will choose to stay in the profession or not.....their choice....Have a good day....

I really appreciate all of the responses I am getting to my post and it is a relief to see those who DO love their job. I believe that this is what I was meant to do...I have wanted it for a long time and luckily have a husband willing to sacrifice so I can go to school...you see I am quitting my job to go to school full time and it will mean that we won't have near the amount of money we had...but he accepts that and is pushing me forward...especially when I am scared, lol. Thanks so much...

Hello again....I wanted to say again how neat I think this board and some of the people are....I don't have alot to say right now, but i wanted to try to keep this topic on front page where anyone who visits will be sure to see it...some aren't as persistant as I am and wouldns't read more than one page...they'd probably run screaming,lol.....thanks again

Hey Robin great to here you want to become a nurse. I chose this profession when I was in my thirties as well. My wife and I are both travelling nurses and we think it's great. study hard be open to experiences and you'll go far. We both wish you the best of luck...

Hello again, I just wanted to update people on how my current situation with school is going. As everyone knows it is almost impossible to go to school for nursing and work full time, but if you don't work then you have to do as I have and file for state assistance(HUD, food stamps). I didn't want to do that, but my husband told me that I should do whatever I had to do to make it through school and do well at it so I have done all of those things....still am actually...got a form for childcare assistance and everything..I was lucky...when I went to file for assistance I got a really wonderful lady who was very nice to me and most of us know how most of those workers can be to people. I have also been making some phone calls to local hospitals and finding out about their scholarship programs and such...I figure the more contacts I have the better. Does anyone out ther have any ideas for scholarships or financial assistance for college? I would appreciate any ideas...I am so excited about school!! For those who are in school I would like to recommend checking into the National student nursing association(NSNA)...I am going to join....thanks everyone for your support
