Nurses prayer
I read your prayers this AM, and just want to say thank you. My aunt Sophie isn't doing well at all. Still on the Vent and having seizures. She was without O2 for to long and I think she has major brain loss. EEg showed minimal activity . My mom is with her and all her children, It is such a hard call for them, I have told them that this is their time to prepare and that she is giving everyone a chance to accept that she is leaving us. I cried this morning with my sister because I could just imagine how my mom feels, and I know the ache she must be feeling. Life can be so hard and yet there is always a bright side to everyones experience. I am glad she has the presence of loved ones at her side and I believe she hears us, and its her comfort. God bless

Need advice and encouragement
DougRN, Experience comes in time, and always remember common sense, its a nurses safety net. Think, Plan, think, and take your time, Its very easy to rush, and make mistakes, always listen to the angel on your shoulder. From my experience I worked in Med Surg after graduation, Its a wonderful mix of learning, and a great stepping stone. I am now a Critical Care RN and feel that med surg has always prepared me for every encounter. Don't rush into a specialty become a bit seasoned, and learn as much as you can, Its a great way to become well rounded. GOOD LUCK>

scared and alone...need advice...please
I am so sorry that you are going through a hard time. I don't know the ramifications of your situation, and since it is a legal issue I would certainly get an attorney. Was the patient seriously harmed in any way? and is it possible you can document a late entry with your supervisors approval. , even though it wasn't documented, and if you did do what you were suppose to do, and no injury occured then a late entry might be acceptable. Here in my hospital we have computer charting so late entries can be added without any problems. I once had an occurence and I was able to document and add to the chart, with my supervisors support. Good luck. I'll keep my eyes open for your reply.bedhead.

What should I do? (very long)
I am not quite sure of something, are you a RN and going for your BSN in NSG?

Would you get out?
susiek, sounds like you have a stressful job with preg. women and dealing with their drug issues> I give you credit. I use to hate when my co-workers would gang up on a new comer or just be bitches because it was fun. I was a target when I first started at my present job, after six years my skin is as tough as nails yet my heart is soft and I have learned to blow the bitches off and speak my peace. So always speak up and hold your ground.

I WILL BE A NURSE(even after reading this board)
GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR BEING A NURSE IT HAS ENRICHED MY LIFE IN SO MANY WAYS. ALWAYS REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE BEFORE YOU STARTED THE PROGRAM AND REFLECT ON YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR GOALS, AND REMEMBER TO DO THIS EVERY YEAR YOU WORK AS A RN. THINGS GET BETTER AND YOU'LL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR MOMENTS AND WE GROW WITH EVERY EXPERIENCE WE HAVE IN LIFE GOOD AND BAD. GOOD LUCK

Would you get out?
I am interested in knowing how many Nurses are out there that wish they could or wished they never went into Nursing? I hear so many coworkers say Oh if I could get out, or I would discourage anyone from going into the profession. We wonder why so many young college ready people aren't choosing to go into the field. I for one am thankful I chose it and encourage Nurses to look at the positives even though there are few at times. The ill need us and if I could make one patients day better than it was worth it. What do you hate most about our profession?

Can Someone Let Me Interview them about the Qualities of Being a Nurse???
Jilly, I would love to give you some input. What are your questions? Just for starters, don't get frustrated when you venture out. You will find some negative and positive aspects of Nursing but remember that Nursing needs people who are open minded, flexible, and focus on the needs of the patient. Think, prioritize and never rush. The key to patient safety is basic nursing and true heart felt caring, always ask for help when your not sure, never ever, ever be intimidated or afraid to ask for help. Some wonderful nurse will always take you under her wing.

Union input please
let me clrify I use to work in NY and now work in NJ so shlepy meaning I was one of those nuses who worked my but off and had breakdowns in med rooms and worked super short staffed, and had a union to boot. I came to NJ and found a peaceful retreat. I was finally experiencing a safer and reasonable way of Nursing and still am after 6 years.

Union input please
Lets say you work at a Hospital whos pay is comparable with and better than most States, and they don't have mandatory overtime, staffing was good, and benefits are fair. They also offer bonuses for overtime worked above the time and half and give added pay to premium pool nurses as well. Yet some nurses think they deserve more and call in a union. Yet there are worse cases out there, what would you say if morally and ethically you thought things were good. That is my dilema. I have worked in shlepy NY and experienced all of the shortages and so on. These people don't realize how good they have it. Its a shame and I am annoyed.

If an MD shoved you...
Isn't it a shame that we have to waste our energies with temper filled Physicians and take care of their patients too. What would they do w/o us. If a Doctor shoved me I would rise to the moment and handle him like the worthless worm he is. I would be calm, cool and educated and teach him a lesson in respect, I have had to bring a Doc to an apology once. for the most part our docs treat us well. So sorry for the Nurses who have to deal with a Doc like that

unions
Calling for a Union opinion! I work inthe North East region NJ, And work at a hospital in ICU. I have worked there several years and love my job. This week we vote for Union representation by NYSNA. I am anti union at this point because I feel our hopital is above all the rest in many ways. I came fom good old Long Island NY and had NYSNA as our Union and saw little change. I feel a union is necessary if truly needed. I feel many have not experienced the true heart felt shortages and pay issues. I would love to hear some replys from those who have had experiences with a union in the N.E areas to get some input on if they truly made a difference.
