- If you've applied online (to any hospital), the hospital retains your electronic application for more than 10 years. Be careful about in consistencies. It is easily browsed by the hiring managers/unit managers and HR.

- Be careful on submitting multiple applications: If it's a critical care unit (ICU, DOU, PACU etc), chances are it lands on the same RN Director/Manger for the critical care unit.

- I know job is scarce but never sell yourself short. Many RNs are underemployed right now, risking their licenses to get a job. DON'T! Once you accepted a job offer, that starting rate will be the base of your whole career. (If you start at $30, you can only get a raise of 0.25% to 1.5%/yearly)

Never thought of that. Good to know & something to think about!

If you are unionized, which it seems like most major hospitals in California area, your salary will be based upon their union negotiations, not necessarily how much your previous job made. This is especially true if you move locations / states.

Also, I actually disagree about not applying to multiple critical care units, you can't assume that the same RN Director / HR person manages all critical care units. There is nothing wrong with submitting multiple job applications to different units in the same hospital. One recruiter might pass on your application while others might not. In smaller hospitals there might be one HR person who manages all critical care units, but in larger hospitals there will be multiple people screening applications.
