I want to know what to expect on the first day of classes in Nursing.

Hi all!

I am a new student and will take my prerequisites in Nursing next week. What should I expect in the first day of classes? Do I need to purchase the books asap and get it teady for the big day lol? Do I need to have lab gown for my laboratory class and glasses? Should I purchase the same books that the university sells? Can I purchase the older or newer edition? Right now as I google they say it will a bad idea buying my books outside with diff edition & diff authors. Please help... Thank you in advance. Is there recitation in class too? I'm from another country, does good english grammar is badly needed to succeed in this field? I can express more on writing than in speaking, you know:).

Thanks so much! ❤️

We had a drug calculation test on our first day. Anyone who scored less than a 90% got one more chance to pass before getting kicked out of the program. That was the most memorable thing, for me.

I would say a good understanding of English is important. Test questions can be "tricky". Not understanding what's actually being asked won't help- at all.

Older editions of books may work. The information usually doesn't vary much, but it's often arranged differently. You may be assigned to read chapters 11, 12 and 13 in the new book which may be chapters 14,15 and 16 in the old one. Exercise questions may vary as well, but not all instructors assign them from the book. I would make sure to have quick access to the "required" book, but check in with the instructor before purchasing it.

Big thanks @ Sour Lemon, but you sounds like sweet not sour lol. Thanks for the input. How about the study groups they say, what if I'm busy and cannot join that group? Is it a requirement from the instructors or no? What if I will be late in class, should I call or text my instructor? What if I will miss the exam day, can I rechedule it, is there any consideration with valid reason why you missed it? Honestly, I have to catch up the universities school bus to go to my classes and back home bec I don't know how to drive yet. Although I passed the State motor vehicles exam to get my Learner's permit, nobody can teach me how to drive because they are all busy. In the university here in the U.S, will the school will be strict on dress code like no shorts or sleeveless top while on class? Silly qiestions ha, but I'm just curious because we do have school uniform in our colleges/universities in our country, like if you are a nursing student, you have to wear all white like a real nurse do on your first year until your 4th year.

Moved to prenursing student. Best wishes.
