I handled an Avodart capsule. I'm not pregnant but I hope to become pregnant. This is such a dangerous med, I found out after the fact.
Anyone with a lot of pharma experience know if I'm scarred for life?

from prescribing information.... "Dutasteride is absorbed through the skin. Therefore, women who are pregnant or may be pregnant should not handle dutasteride soft gelatin capsules because of the possibility of absorption of dutasteride and the potential risk of a fetal anomaly to a male fetus (see Contraindications). In addition, women should use caution whenever handling dutasteride soft gelatin capsules. If contact is made with leaking capsules, the contact area should be washed immediately with soap and water."
i don't have much experience with avodart.... this is the # to call GSK (the manufacturer): 1-888-825-5249. maybe they can better answer your questions?
wish you all the best.

I hope this link works for you to use. One point I read on there is that the risk is greater if it was a leaking capsule. Hopefully it wasn't.
Sending you comforting thoughts.

According to the drug guide, the half life is 5 weeks, so if you are not pregnant now, and do not get pregnant within 5 or 10 weeks, there should be no significant level of the drug in your system. Was the capsule leaking? Seems to be a pretty small risk if it wasn't...
No, it wasn't leaking. I'm not wanting to become pregnant until sometime this summer, so maybe I will be okay.

I think you'll get the best answer if you talk to the drug manufacturer directly. Good luck.

i'm glad it wasn't a leaking capsule but even if it was and you're not going to try to get pregnant until this summer you need to relax and forget about it.
