I think Ive met that ONE person....

Published

well, I started my first job as a brand new GN on Monday, and so far everyone has been really nice. Today, I said hello to a person I hadnt met yet, and that person looked at me, then totally ignored me and walked on by. I know everyone says there will always be one sour apple, it just made me feel bad. I dont think I could ever just blantantly ignore someone. Im the type of person who dwells on things and lets things bother me for a long time though, so maybe Im just overreacting. I probably do need tougher skin though!!;)

I used to work with a guy like that,it wasn't just me he would often ignore people.we were all getting fed up with his attitude, felt like he thought he was too good to speak to us,until we realized that he was very hard of hearing after that we just made sure he was looking at us when we spoke to him and things were fine.Turned out he was a great guy with the best sense of humor and we all loved working with him.

Don't let it get to you. I had a co-worker who was the same way, and I hated her for being so rude. Then, I was assigned to work next to her. Like, literally, right next to her. Soon, we became friends! Weird, huh?

After becoming friends, did you ever discuss your first impressions of her? I'm not suggesting you do if you haven't, just wondering how that went if you did!

thanks for all the responses! I guess I didnt consider any of the perspectives that some posted about. Maybe she was "off in her own world" and just didnt hear me or it didnt register or something. Well, Im back to the hospital tomorrow, and Im excited!

Sigh...

For all you know, this "sour apple" could have had a million things on her mind on that moment and your greeting might not have even registered. Unless you can read minds, you really don't know what she was thinking.

Honestly, new nurses, it really isn't always all about you. Please cut your co-workers some slack for having bad days. You're going to have them too. And please try to refrain from the name calling ("sour grape," "sour apple," etc.). It's offensive. Everyone has bad days. Everyone.
