Home health is my dream job too. I have very flexible hours and schedules, go in late, get off early if my work is done. I make good money, good mileage rate and my pts more often than not are great. I love being able to take the time to spend with them and address their issues and concerns. I love the slow pace. I am in a very small HH agency though, and it seems that the larger HH agencies in big cities work their nurses to death. I am blessed and lucky to enjoy my job and to have one!!
Congradulations. I like home health but trying to find a company that is more flexible and allows me to have a life. Right now I see 6 pts mon-fri but I have decided to stay PRN for my previous company just in case this new one does not work out. I still have 3pts with the old company and they all live 5 min from my home so it is not too bad but still work a few hours each weekend. Will have to choose a company soon, I am working at least a little every day. But it is great to hear that some people love there jobs. Congrats!
I'm in a suburb just outside of Boston working with a small company.
I was not kidding, I really like it. And I hate to drive! I just keep it manageable and don't do too much in one day. I work from home and only go in the office when I need supplies once a week.
I fax in my time sheets and paperwork.
We get $40 per visit. $100 per admission. .45 cents per mile. $40 per day extra just for traveling.
There is no patient quota to maintain, it's up to me when I work, how many patients I want.
I, too, work in home health and absolutely love it! As someone already stated, I am my own boss and do not have to deal with hospital politics, I have more time with my pts, get to interact with them in their more comfortable, home setting and have so much flexibility with my schedule and time. I work three 12-hour shifts a week at $33/hr for the first 8 hours and $49.50 (time and a half) for the last 4 hours. Holiday pay is $66/hr (double). I'm called for additional cases often which I take sometimes, and other times turn down. I haven't been offered mileage but now that I've read this thread, may go back and ask my agency if they do reimburse for mileage. It could be you just have to ask!
I would definitely recommend home health nursing to a hospital nurse who's burned out :)

Wow, I'm loving my new job. I make my own hours, sleep in late if I want to, don't have to go anywhere I don't want to (stay close to home) one on one patient care, good pay with mileage, have time to run errands, walk dog, keep house clean, etc...this job rocks!
