I am just getting started and after reading here for a while I find that I don't really know what I am doing. :uhoh21: I want to be a nurse. I have wanted this all my life. I am just able to pursue it. I don't know the first thing to do. I just completed the MA program. I did this to help me understand what I would be in for. I also did it to have a job while in school.
Can anyone help me. I know I have some classes I need before I can even look at a nursing school and I am going to get started on that this fall, but after that, what? I was thinking maybe buy some books and start reading to help, is that a good thing to do?
I am so happy to be on this path finally!!! I have no family to support me. Both my parents have passed away and I am alone in this.
So you all will be my out-let if that is OK:yeah:.......I am happy I found this site. A friend of mine told me about it. She said it helped her while she was in school and she told me how hard school can be. She said I would need support and this is a good place for it. I did not know if I could or even should join being I'm not a nursing student yet. But when I saw the forum for students I said I would and get the help I needed as I walk this road. Thanks for all you help....
Wanted to update my information. Well, I am stillllllllll doing pre-reqs. I feel like I will be doing them for the rest of my life. I had to stop again. We moved so now I have to go to a different school. I will be attending TSU this fall. I pray that I will be able to apply for the program next fall. Keep me in prayer that it is the case. I was going to take the medical asst. class but a friend told me it would be a wast of time and money. This process has taken me through so much and in it all I have come to learn more about who I am and what I need to successed.
I am happy that I want need to buy scrubs. It will all be given to me by the school They have on uniform which is white. I will have to get white shoes. I spoke with some of the students there and they told me to be ready to read 10-15 chapters in two weeks and then have a test on all that information. I was like, man. So I have been reading a lot more and watching TV a lot less. I want to be ready for this. I am also working on "critical thinking" it is hard. I just hope I am doing to much.
unfbsn08 I think I should do the BSN first as you say. I know I want to get my MSN at some point so this would be the best way to go. :bowingpur
If you are financially able to do this without stressing yourself out, then its a great idea. However, I would also look into ADN programs as well, because, in many cases, you can get your employer to pay at least part (and sometimes all) or your tuition should you decide to pursue an advanced degree (In return, you agree to work for said employer for X number of years). Personally, I eventually want to get my master's as well (but I'm thinking Physicians Assistant rather than sticking with nursing), and the way I see it, those programs can get mighty expensive and I'd rather be stuck with as little of the bill as possible.

This is a good forum for information but it is usually more broad in nature. Try hanging out on the Pre-Nursing Student forum located at: https://allnurses.com/forums/f198/ I found that forum very helpful and supportive while I was taking pre-req and co-req courses and in the process of applying to nursing school.
You will find that the forum consists of a group of students who will share similar concerns and experiences as well as start threads for particular classes such as A&P. After a student starts nursing school, you will usually see him/her branch out and join the Nursing Student Assistance Forum. The threads on that forum are more focused on nursing school course work and related issues. GL.
