Hello everyone I have finally completed nursing school. Let me express why I am scared to take NCLEX. First of all my school required us to pass hesi in order to graduate. I first took the hesi in April of 09 I failed twice. I had a summer course again I failed twice. Finally in december on my fifth attempt I passed. I do not want taking the NCLEX to be a repeat of the hesi experience. I know the first four time I took the hesi I was not preparing correctly due to laziness. I practiced 300 questions a day for two weeks then I retested and got a 930 which is passing at my University. I can not afford Kaplan so I bought the strategies book, I took the readiness test or whatever on the cd and got a 75% so that concludes that I can answer NCLEX questions. I am basically rambling her
Any way I want to know if the Kaplan strategies book + saunders should be sufficient in helping me pass the NCLEX. Also how long did everyone prepare before they took NCLEX? I have not gotten my ATT yet but I have stopped studying. I plan to restart very soon in hopes of knocking the NCLEX out in early February. Any suggestions, tips, etc will be appreciated.
Thanks
Oh yes the books I currently have are:

I studied for 2 weeks before my NCLEX. I have a Kaplan strategy book, NCLEX-RN made incredibly easy content review and NCLEX-RN made incredibly easy 3500 Q&A. I read a chapter from the content book and then take the approx 150 question exam in the Q&A book. I didn't take any Kaplan class because I dont like studying in groups and I dont have problems with taking the test, I just needed content review. I basically studied 8hrs a day. I take my NCLEX on Friday and I feel prepared.

I took the NCLEX last week and passed. I graduated in December which basically gave me less than a month to take it from graduation day. Now throw in Christmas and New Years and I had about 2 weeks to study, off and on because I am moving. My school does not require us to pass the HESI only that we take the HESI exit to graduate. I did not pass the HESI, according to HESI standards. I honestly thought the questions on the HESI were harder than my NCLEX exam questions. I studied by using an exam book with a disc which had about 7 or so different NCLEX style tests on it. The tests were about 160 questions each. I have no experience with Kaplan but have heard good things about it. I honestly think, after having taken the exam, the best thing one could do to prepare is to take tests with questions like you will see on the NCLEX. If you think Kaplan is working for you, I say go for it. But what you are doing so far sounds sufficient for passing the test. Good Luck!

I was scared too before I took my test, but I did self review for 2 months and prayed and believed that I will pass the test and I did. Before going to the testing center I prayed and asked for guidance. When I sat down in front of the computer I just told myself that I would take my time and I was ready for the maximum number of questions, to my surprise I stopped at 75.
Everybody gets scared sometimes esp. before the test, but don't doubt yourself and remember that you made it out of nursing school. You are destined to become a nurse and you will pass this test regardless of how hard they say it is, once you are in front of that computer, you will all remember what you came there for, to pass the test! Good luck!! :)
Thank you all. It has already been a long and challenging (an extra 7 months of school) journey for me. I just want to be a nurse. I found a beautiful quote today that I will live by until I take the test and pass. I don't know why I am so afraid. Everyone in my class who took the test so far passed most are working. I just need to get my ATT so I can test and come on here and tell you guys about the experience.
The quote
"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure." I feel better already
