Resp. opposite , metabolic oposite. PH high is always alkalosis , and PH low is always acidosis ? Is this correct?

Also, does anyone have a guide as to what you do in each of these situations ? I continue to get confused on this topic!! ugh!!!

What specifically confuses you, jlynn167?

He provides a technique that makes ABGs easy to understand, IMO.

There are also many other threads here on AN that might be of assistance. Good Luck!

For metabolic, pH, PCO2, HCO3 are all 3 high if alkalosis or low if acidosis.

For respiratory: if alkalosis the pH will be high but PCO 2 & HCO 3 will be low. If Resp. Acidosis the pH is low & PCO2 & HCO3 will be high.
