I have been a LPN for 17 years. I thought of returning to school many times but wife, kids, work... I'm sure my story sounds familiar to many of you. Well, I did return in 2003 for a couple semesters and knocked out my prerequisites but life got busy again. I have looked into Excelsior almost every year for 17 years and never made the plunge for fear of spending a lot of money on the CPNE and not passing it. Now, I'm not bragging by any means but I passed my prereqs. with a 3.87 average and really didn't study that much HOWEVER, I have always worried about that darn CPNE! THE CPNE and ONLY the CPNE have stopped me from moving forward. Well, now at the "ripe old age" of 46 I have taken the plunge and and sent my application fee in last week to attend Excelsior. I just wanted to say "Thank You" to all of the inspiring stories of those who are going through it or have gone through it. This is very encouraging to those of us just starting the journey. I ordered four books on Half.com that only cost $42 and would have cost me $375 brand new. I have never taken this step forward so I know I am serious. I will continue to visit this site during my journey and I hope, like many, I can complete this journey in a year. I only work three 12 hour shifts per week with a "call day" twice in six weeks(which I usually have to work) so I have the time to study. I'm not going to worry about the CPNE...no excuses this time!

I'm just starting myself so I'll be following everyone's post too. I have tons of books here from my previous nursing school so hopefully I won't feel the need to buy anymore, :/
Just waiting my 6 weeks for them to review my transcript which they already have and tell me what I need. Good luck!!!
