I have seen TONS of people who have said "nursing is my second, third or fourth career." As I have become more and more curious I was wanting to start a thread to see what areas and walks of life all the nurses and student nurses had before embarking on this incredible medical journey.
I will go first.
I was a TRUCK DRIVER prior to being a nursing student..
NEXT.
I am excited to see what you all did in your PAST LIVES>>>>>
:lol2:I was a travel agent and travel agency manager for 8 years, a stay at home mom for 6 years, owned my own retail tack store for 6 years, worked in the front office of a family practice doctor's office and finally have been an RN since July of this year!!! I am loving my job with the Denver VA in the MICU more than I ever loved my past occupations (maybe stay at home mom tops them all).

I was, and still am, a lawyer prior to my taking my BSN. Worked days, studied nights and weekends. Got lucky I guess with the NCLEX. As I told the interviewers of my then potential employer over at Los Angeles when asked why I took up nursing, I frankly told them that it probably would make it easier for me to get into heaven as a nurse.
I guess they liked that answer and accepted me, a graduate nurse, for a position over at med surg. As soon as I spoke with my immigration lawyer and he asked me what I did over here in my home country, the look on his face, as I told him, was priceless. I guess I was his very first lawyer-nurse client. Cheers. ( I think that I should be a-changin' my username too.)
