I Passed Nclex-RN!! Advice for test takers

Published

I just found out about an hour ago that I passed Nclex-RN!!!! I'm so happy. For a second there I thought I wasn't gonna make it. Just want to give some advice to the future nclex takers:

1- I freaked out when I realized my exam didn't shut off at 75 questions. Walk in there prepared to take as much questions as you think your brain will allow, even if it means telling yourself, "I'm prepared to take 265 questions if I have to." My test didn't shut off til 213 questions!!! I was freaking out the whole time.

2- Take the break the computer suggests you take. I used the break to pray and gather my thoughts and encourage myself to take this exam and not let it take me.

3- Do not get hung up on how many questions you had. Like many others said here, the # of questions you had is completely irrevelant. You can pass or fail at any number. Do not think that just because your computer didn't shut off at 75 it must mean that you were borderline or not doing well. The computer won't shut off until you're getting 50% wrong in the passing range. This takes longer for some people to achieve because the computer gives you easy and hard questions.

4- Know your broad based knowledge. I felt it was either you knew it or not and don't forget your fundamentals like the importance of infection control. I got a lot of that.

5- If you can take it the same day as a close friend, you should. I don't think I would've made it through the day if I didn't have my best friend there to vent with after the exam. Don't worry if she/he gets up and is finished before you. You're both taking entirely different exams. Hers might've been easier for her to achieve that 50% in the passing range, who knows?

Clear your mind, get rest, eat a good breakfast, say your prayers if you have faith, and surround yourself with positivity! Good Luck to all of you!

HI everyone, I did it I Passed!!!:yeah:took the exam monday 03/22 found out Thursday On CA BRN website my name listed - RN!! yipee!!, I had 265 questions!! yikes!! when it shut off- thought OMG!! I'm doomed!! didn't have much confidence I took Kaplan course and my scores are depressing, but I was able to find comfort on other nurses on this website that took Kaplan and have same experience- I was skeptical about it several times until I hear a lot of positive outcome from it then I decide and I was comfortable with it - it helps dealing with hard questions that you need to analyzed at least to me it did,I'm so thankful for this website for all the support and encouragement and prayers as well I was able to have a friend from this site that we were supporting each other diligently I'm very thankful for it!!! Best of luck to all NCLEX test takers, be sure to take those breaks when you are asked, it helps tremendously!! after a long journey I finally arrive to my destination. have faith and surround yourself with positive people its very contageous in building your confidence!! and Pray! God is good- thanks to all again!!woohoo!!:loveya:

Doesn't matter which state you sit the exam or state board of nursing you apply to because the exam is a national exam and everyone gets questions from the same pot

ps. We also ask that you don't post in capitals like this as classed as shouting on board :)

It doesn't matter which state you are taking it's a national exam as NCLEX means- National Council Licensure exam, there's no hard or easy there pretty much the same standards, the only difference is each states has it's own rules of requirements to be credentialed to sit on the exam specially for a foriegn graduate nurse and likewise has different requirements for endorsement exam wise not much different at all. Good Luck!!:)

Congrats, Amber :) I still have another year left of nursing school, but I'm already nervous about the nclex!! I have been practicing with the ATI discs and review books that my school gives us, and I think that has been boosting my confidence. I am nervous about the "check all that apply" questions though!

I am sorry i haven't written back, i am new to the site and just found out how to write back to someone. Congrats on making it through nursing school this far, we all know how hard it is. I heard that they are changing the NCLEX on april 1st, so I don't know to what or why. I recommend having a study buddy or a study group to help u through school. I had a group that met once a week and we would write our own NCLEX style questions with answers and answer then together as a group. This really helped me. The select all that apply questions are hard, I either put one too many or one to little. Just try the best u can with those. And on the NCLEX there will be some really hard questions that you will have no idea, for those I try to use test taking skills. Good luck and contact me if you have any more questions. Bye!

congratulations to all who passed the NCLEX!!!!

I do have 1 question, which material is better? i am still on the process of applying for nclex and wanted to do self study first while waiting.

Huh!!!!!i'll be takin this for the 2nd time around and i just need to pass it.

I would definitley take a review course like Kaplan or ATI. They are pretty pricey but worth it. If you can't do that then get together with a friend and study together. That helps me too. Good Luck to you!!!

CONGRATS!!!!! We all believed in you!!!!

Thanks for the advice! I believe the biggest change is going to be adding the "check all that apply" questions...that's all I've heard. Nursing school is definitely tough, but I really love it.

Nursing school is tough but also fun. I was thinking that maybe I had the new test or they maybe tested the new test on me cause i had about 65% select all that apply or maybe even more. Just study and study till the day before the test, dont study the day before, do something fun for yourself, because you deserve it. After all the stress and studying, and thinking your brain can't hold anymore, you deserve a day for yourself. you can do it, all of us are behind you.

Nursing school is tough but fun. I was thinking that maybe they were testing the new test on me, because my test was really hard and had a majority of select all that apply. Maybe the new test will have fill in the blank...that would stink....Have you decided what area of nursing you want to go into yet?

I don't really have any area I'd like to specialize as of now...I'd like to finish all of my clinical rotations first before I make a decision. I am a float NA at a hospital by me and I really love OB, NICU, and the Cancer Center. As a student I really liked OB also, so I'm heading in that direction, but I am still interested in other areas of nursing...there are so many different areas of nursing!
