I Passed Nclex-RN!! Advice for test takers

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just found out about an hour ago that I passed Nclex-RN!!!! I'm so happy. For a second there I thought I wasn't gonna make it. Just want to give some advice to the future nclex takers:

1- I freaked out when I realized my exam didn't shut off at 75 questions. Walk in there prepared to take as much questions as you think your brain will allow, even if it means telling yourself, "I'm prepared to take 265 questions if I have to." My test didn't shut off til 213 questions!!! I was freaking out the whole time.

2- Take the break the computer suggests you take. I used the break to pray and gather my thoughts and encourage myself to take this exam and not let it take me.

3- Do not get hung up on how many questions you had. Like many others said here, the # of questions you had is completely irrevelant. You can pass or fail at any number. Do not think that just because your computer didn't shut off at 75 it must mean that you were borderline or not doing well. The computer won't shut off until you're getting 50% wrong in the passing range. This takes longer for some people to achieve because the computer gives you easy and hard questions.

4- Know your broad based knowledge. I felt it was either you knew it or not and don't forget your fundamentals like the importance of infection control. I got a lot of that.

5- If you can take it the same day as a close friend, you should. I don't think I would've made it through the day if I didn't have my best friend there to vent with after the exam. Don't worry if she/he gets up and is finished before you. You're both taking entirely different exams. Hers might've been easier for her to achieve that 50% in the passing range, who knows?

Clear your mind, get rest, eat a good breakfast, say your prayers if you have faith, and surround yourself with positivity! Good Luck to all of you!

Congatsss!! And good luck to your next step!!! Sure its a success!!!

congratulations!!!!!!! good luck on your next ladder to success!!!!

:clpty::ancong!: YOU MADE IT R.N!! I TAKE MINE'S IN DCEMBER 2010. GOD BLESS YOU. MDC MIAMI DADE MEDICAL COLLEGE CLASS OF 2010

I actually studied the day before the exam and decided not to take the NCLEX on the same day as any of my friends because I was afraid if they left early, I will feel anxious and question myself a lot. I made sure I stayed at a hotel close to the testing site, so I didn't have to drive a long way the day of the exam. I also made sure I got plenty of rest, but that is tough to do when you're already anxious about taking the exam. Make sure to take that break whenever the test asks you to, it's a great way to relax your eyes after straining it in front of the computer. Good Luck all and Congrats for passing it :yeah:

hi laynaer,

congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you for posting this... 'coz i badly need some advice from the newly passed rns. i am going to take my exam probably on april and i am aware of the risks of taking it later because of the changes on the nclex-rn test plan. this is my second take and the last time i took it i get pressured with the time left i have before my visa ends (btw, i am just holding a j1 visa), schoolworks ('coz i finished ce at the nearby district college) so put everything in one i know i couldn't make it but still i tried and i'm right...i failed

i took the review class at kaplan last january here in california. and my grades ranges from 50s to 60s i only got one 72% in one of the qbank 50 questions... i feel like i'm not confident enough to take it soon so i better face the april 1 or i fail.

Congrats! And thanks for posting the pointers.:yeah:

I found out that I passed by going to my BON's website where I found my license number.

You can answer some of the questions that you don't know on the NCLEX. Look for the one that doesn't fit in. ie: Which are red A) rose B) blue C) green D) black.

Look for the one that covers all of the answers being given. ie: K+ normal level is A) 3.8 B) 4.0 C) 4.5 D) 3.0-5.1 PICK D as it is the umbrella answer. These are not actual questions on the NCLEX I am just trying to give you an example. Think HERE and NOW not THERE and THEN.
