I Passed ANCC FNP today!!!

Published

I posted a few months back but quick background... I was ANCC certified as an Adult NP since 2005. I decided to go back for my FNP so I completed a Post Masters Program through UMASS Boston. Because I was already an Adult NP, I was A&E to do the 12 credit hour/300 clinical hour option. Well I did it!!! These boards were tough in my opinion. If you have any questions, now is the time to ask while it's fresh on my mind. :D

Congratulation and thank you for sharing.

Do they tell you if you passed after the test?

I am thinking to take the ANCC just to see how different they are, I am worry if I did not pass what the board of nursing will do.

How long did you study for the ANCC?

In the AANP if you take a break takes time from your test time, is the same in the ANCC?

Do they have sounds for lung, heart or others?

Congratulations LubbockNP!~

My studying was very unfocused and kinda all over the place. But I felt clinically prepared. I took the sample questions from the ANCC site for every NP certification they had, ie. Pedi, AGCACNP, AGPCNP, Adult mental health, Mental healthy psych. I was just trying to learn the style of their questions. I think really I could have prepared in 2-3 weeks with more focused study. The non clinical stuff was what I feared more than the clinical stuff. I did not get any heart sounds. The test limit is 4 hours. There is a little tutorial. Any breaks you take are in that 4 hours. I did not take any breaks and from the beginning to the end, including the tutorial my exam was 2.5 hours.

For ANCC there was no actual heart/lung sounds on the exam. I studied for about a month. Again though I have been a practicing Adult NP since 2005 so that helped in many aspects but also hurt in some other aspects as well. You do find out if you passed or not before leaving the test center after completing a post test survey and sign out with the test center staff, they will print out a letter that says congratulations, ect. I have received my certificate in the mail now which took about 2 weeks but I never received anything with my score.

Thank you for sharing. I also think knowing about how they do questions is very important, they have a great tips about their questions in the first volume of their review (ANCC). Many of my questions in AANP were 1st level, were you have straight question with a straight answer. Second level that you have to think how to answer and there are 2 factors playing were some questions in the test and third level were they talk about an illness but they mingle with other illness or complication and you have to take that in your consideration for your answer are just a few. The stats, ethics, legal are in my opinion straight forward.

Thank you Senny.ANP.FNP

Having a prior practice helped another classmate, she was Acute Care NP.
