Boy, did I have a rough night last night, but it was all worth it this afternoon when I saw PASSED pop up on my screen! I finally did it. I am a Nurse Practitioner. Thank God!! South University does not have any review out, but I am one of their graduates of the NP program that has successfully passed the ANP exam (with Fitzgerald and Barkley's courses).
err
I graduated on Dec 10th and just took my AANP exam...and PASSED!!!!!
Hello Inflanurrse
I am sorry that I am responding so late. I just wanted to give you a personal CONGRATS! I have read many of your comments on these threads and I must say that you have been so positive. You always give positive feedback even when some are negative. I have seen you on many occasions take the time out to answer so many questions that were thrown at you and you answered them objectively and honestly. I feel like I have learned so much from your experiences, as you provided invaluable insight on the program at South. It is only fitting and so deserving that you passed your exam on the first attempt!! Your positive attitude and willingness to help others, could only be blessed with a positive outcome. Again congratulations and I wish you the best in your journey as an ANP
Just a quick question to the former south students. Your preceptors, were they all strictly just doing office primary care or were some of them seeing their patients in an acute care setting as well? If it's allowed by South, I'd like to choose preceptors that are rounding on their patients at my local hospitals as well.
In my last class, Primary Care, my preceptor and I saw patients in the office, hospitals, and nursing homes. It was really great. He would quiz me in the hospital setting. I guess I did well enough, because he offered me a position going daily to the hospitals at noon for new admits and to see about any additional discharges, then the same at the nursing homes before going to the clinic. I did not take the offer as I would be working until 8:30pm Mon-Fri and I really wanted to have a life with my family since graduation!
Hi Rod,
I'm also considering starting the FNP at SU, although I haven't applied nor made up my mind yet. Also, much like you, I don't really have the affinity for anything Peds related but I'm under the impression that the Family track is more marketable and more sought-after by PCPs. Thoughts?
Like Ihflanurse, I'm also in FL (Miami) and would be interested in following up on your experiences at SU (whichever track you choose). I'm very hesitant about online programs since I've never taken a single course in this format, I've attended brick and mortar schools for my ADN and my current BSN degree.
Anyway, best of luck with your pursuit of your APRN degree!
Ted

The secret is to do as MUCH extra reading on your assignments. I found really researching my weekly DF posts AND papers wound up helping me a LOT. Your other secret is to get into as active a practicum site as you can and get your hands dirty!!!!! As I was doing the exam, some of the answers came straight out of my clinical rotation experiences.
