I need to vent about my Nursing program

Published

So i got accepted into a Nursing program a few months ago and i was super excited about it at the beginning but now im concerned about it because it is going wayyyy tooooo fast . so we are basically studying none stop to pass all these exams and quizzes without having a chance to think about what we just did , My grades are good..... VERY good : Health Assessment 98 % Pharmacology 1 96 % Dosage Calculations 99 % Fundamentals 97 % and i know with these grades you guys will probably say ( what is this stupid girl complaining about ) but i swear that i dont think im learning anything !! i study to pass these exams and i feel like ill be " that nurse " that doesnt know **** . Tell me this feeling is normal or not , i am worried about it , we have exams every single week , plus care plans plus before class assignments and did i mention that i work full time ? lol

Maybe im just freaking out :( but i need someone to talk to because my friends dont understand and they think im exaggerating because im still passing these classes so i should just be ok with that ....

Thank you for taking the time to reply , im in school right now as we speak and i feel better after reading all these comments

Congrats on the grades!

Do you have any study tips/strategies?

I start nursing school in the fall and I honestly don't know how to study.

Hi! Thank you for the heads up. I will start my absn program this fall. Although I was/am estactic about my acceptance, I am quite nervous about the intensity of the program. I will take your advice.

Best of luck to you! Keep up the good work :)

I felt the same way in nursing school. I excelled but worried about not having enough time to really master stuff.

Nursing school trains you to think and respond like a nurse.

It's less about the material than you think, and more about the way you process it.

Thank you !! i try to read the chapters a day before the class ( as much as i can because is a lot )

Ask a lot of questions even if it is stupid , dont be afraid

i create study guides based on what we do in class and the power points they usually give us

lots of index cards and i used my friends to ask me questions

i purchased a huge dryerase board that helps me a lot specially with pharm calculations

i watch/ listen youtube videos on my way to work and on my way home lol

thank you !! one day at a time :) good luck !

This is a normal and very common feeling to have. As a nursing student, you have to know so much in such a short amount of time. A lot of what you will learn will be on the job. There is so much variety in nursing, and to think that you will master every realm of such a diverse occupation is impossible. I remember in nursing school, I spent the first semester trying to memorize everything. I was often frustrated because when the exam day came, 90% of what I learned and memorized wasn't even covered to the same extent on the exam. I learned that the material was to be looked at like a summary, understand the concepts, and the rest will fall into place.

i believe most programs is this way, mine is also. There is a lot of info we must go through in a short period of time. Don't be nervous if you aren't retaining everything it is impossible. Keep up what you are doing and stay afloat in your classes. You will remember the most when you do clinicals and apply to real patients. It will all come together i the end

if the teacher gives you power points, study those and if its something you don't understand then go into the book because with the amount of chapters they give you, you wont be able to read it all and focus on what the teacher has in the lecture notes.

this is kinda how i feel :( i wanna know everything because i dont wanna be that nurse that is lost but a the same time i cant

I understand that feeling.. I was in the same situation. we had a new class every 8 weeks which means an exam every week. You have care plans that must mean you are in clinical? How do you feel when you are in clinical? During school, not to long ago I graduated in December 2017, I look forward to clinical and simulation. but I didnt haven't great grades... you can do this!

Im getting ready to start the bridge RN program at jersey college in august. Anyone with pointers about this school
