I am sooo excited!! I got approved for the WIA program and believe I am going to go Chattahouchee Tech in Marietta. It will only take 4 months to get certified. I previously worked as a CNA in nursing homes and also as a PCT in the ICU of Cartersville Medical Center. I am nervous because I have been out of this field for about 10 years but soo thrilled since it is my passion!!! I will go further to get my RN degree. I do need some advice I am taking the TABE test on the 16th. They referred me to website but it just had a bunch of links that made you buy something. I need help and Im low on cash. Also I was wondering if I should start job shopping. Does anyone have any leads?? I prefer hospital work since I have experience in that environment.

Congrats!! Getting WIA money is not easy these days!! I used to administer the TABE! The program that I used to teach for did a pre-test called a Locator to see which level TABE you took but then the state changed it and everyone got the Medium level. Don't spend any money prepping for the TABE!! It's basic Reading and Math (a little Algebra and Geometry also) which you can find online as there are loads of sites. The Math is what I saw trip people up the most since we don't sit around converting back and forth between fractions, decimals and percents and remembering all of the rounding rules and when to add zeros when dividing by hand.
There was no calculator allowed and it each section was timed. Google what's out there for FREE for the TABE but YouTube has a ton of good videos (especially math.) You can go to the library and use GED review books, RN school entrance exam books to brush up reading comprehension skills as well as math.
Look at the the website below but especially on the right where it says "Download brochure," make sure you look at that because it tells you what types of Math and Reading questions are in each level. Try to find out if they use the Locator to see which test you take or does everyone take the same one. for example, if your state or program only uses Medium Level then you know to only study those topics.

Good Luck!! Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions at all!!
Thankyou so much for your input!! They claim there is no pass/fail but i still want to score above average. But the schools dont see this test do they? And if they dont my score wont effect me getting into a nursing program??? Its funny how ? come up. I will have to write these down. Yes WIA is hard to get. The lady @ my school said u have to stay on them but Gods favor sure trumped that! I sent my paper work off 1 1/2 ago so Im doing great!! I will have to ask my coodinator if its med level.
You're welcome! There is no pass/fail. I don't think that the schools see the TABE scores. Then again maybe Chattahouchee Tech could see the scores since WIA is funding this part of your schooling and they may be able to view all of your WIA documentation. Ask the lady at your school or the WIA office if WIA-funded programs can see your scores.
Check out this cool program to pay for RN school!
NURSE Corps Scholarship Program
For those who are wondering what we are talking about: WIA= Workforce Investment Act
This will pay for the basic classes like English and math if so I will do this after my PCT program!! I still have to take my pre-requestes.
I just re-read my answer and it didn't make sense to me. TABE isn't pass/fail there is a cumulative score based upon all of the sections. Ask the lady at your school what the minimum score for the tech school is if there even is one.
All of my clients in my program who were eligible for "our" WIA money had their Diploma or GED and I really don't think the TABE scores meant anything to the programs they were going to and it was just a formality. But, mine was a Welfare-to-Work program and I think you are going through a more direct path to the WIA funds than so there could be different rules. The government and all of their rules!!! Craziness!!

Hi, how did the TABE test go?
Yes, jamiross007,
How was the TABE? Did school start yet?
Keep us posted!
Hi, I would love some TABE tips. Im takeing the test in a week and this will be my third time taking it. I passed the math 12.9 but failed reading comp and language part.
I looked online for test strategies mention to avoid answers with words "only, never, always, etc) reading comp is my problem such as main idea (skim topic sentences?) and the authors tone/structure/purpose. Should I learn the clue keywords and signas words reading comp? (problem solution vs. Cause effect vs. Persuasive, vs compare contrast)
Author tone should I learn the signal words ans context clues?
Thank you for your help :)
I am just came from orientation for the WIA program. I mention I want to do job training lvn program but they said I need to look for work on the job site and send a referral sheet of jobs I applied to first showing that I'm looking for work. How long is the process before I receive funds for lvn program?

If you haven't yet been looking for work it can be a few months. Those that were looking for work all along received funds quicker in my area. Those that didn't start looking had to show 3 verifiable attempts over 6 weeks. There wasn't as much funding available at the end of the year.
Hi @justbeachynurse what do you men by those who already have been looking for work? I am assigned to a job specialist and try to see her twice a month and email her once a week so she remembers me. Should I focus on applying on the job site or calling places and wri the numbers down on the job search sheet to turn in?
