Any suggestions for a good quality one that doesn't break the bank? Also, it sounds silly to say, but I would like one that was a bit cuter than the standard black.
It is more than I'd like to spend, but I LOVE the look of this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B7SD2D6/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1376883510&sr=1-9&pi=SL75
Would something like that look silly to have in nursing school? My school's introduction packet didn't say it had to be a certain brand/color, just that you needed your own.
Here's the rub with stethoscopes... once you know exactly what you're listening for, many times you can get by with a cheap stethoscope. The problem is that cheap stethoscopes aren't usually good enough to really allow you to get to that point. The really good ones can help you differentiate sounds a lot better, but again, you have to know what you're listening for. The mid-range quality stethoscopes avoid the low quality problems with the cheap steths and the price problems of the darned good/way too good ones.
I have an MDF MD One (MDF 777) and love it. It can be found on AllHeart for $54.98 and comes in a variety of colors. Unlike the Littmann, it is constructed with stainless steel. It also has clear ear pieces so you can see if they need replacing..and.. (drum roll).. if you register your steth you get free parts for life.
