I need Psychology 101 HELP!!! Rio Salado

Published

I am taking PSY101 online through Rio Salado and I am starting to hate this class, I am spending more and more time on this class and my grade is getting worse with every assignment. Has anyone taken this through Rio and if so how was your experience. I really thought I could get an A in this class, who would have thought I could get a better grade in BIO and Algebra than in PSY101. I have emailed my instructor twice asking for feedback and the only answer I get is "use more depth" but she has never explained what that means to her. I am getting an 86% right now, I really need to bring that up to an A for GPA reasons.

Any advise from would be appreciated!!

I began to take it there a few years back and dropped. I felt the professor wasn't very helpful and the course was a joke as far as learning anything.

I'd taken CHEM through Rio previously, learned a lot, and managed to earn an A. Didn't feel I could even earn an A with Psych -- grading was so much a matter of perspective -- the professor's -- as it is (or was) largely earned through essays.

Sorry I can't be of more help. :(

i had the same problem. i would have thought the class was going to be a little easier (the material certainly wasn't that difficult!) but i felt like my psychology professor didn't prepare us well for exams. a lot of psychology is conceptual thinking which is hard for us logical, science geeks! i tend to be more of a logical thinker. it's just something you are going to have to work on for ns. i went to tutoring for psych and i can honestly say that it helped. i also went to a tutor for writing which has vastly improved my grades in these types of classes.

get help if you need it. don't give up! find out what you need to do to get the grades that you want!

Maybe you should drop the class and take it in class or find a different online professor? Not every professor can teach online classes correctly.

Also 86% isn't that bad, only four points away from an A. If you really kick ass on the final exam then I think you'll be fine.

Psychology is a hate it or love it subject. I'm starting pre-nursing in the fall, but my graduate study is in psychology- so if you need help with a specific assignment or topic, I'm happy to help if I can.

I have another idea though- call your nursing advisor and ask if they accept CLEP credit for the psychology requirement. www.collegeboard.com CLEP is a pass/fail multiple choice exam that allows you to demonstrate college level learning. You would still have to study- but you wouldn't have the homework (which in my opinion, is so entirely subjective that your instructor may have an agenda that he/she is pushing- causing some of your confusion). The CLEP exam might be offered at your college, or a neighboring college. It costs $80, and lasts roughly an hour. When I earned my bachelor's degree, I used CLEP exam credit for almost all of my gen eds. 2900 colleges in the country accept CLEP, and my nursing program allows CLEP for intro psychology as well as intro sociology. Just a thought. You might be able to CLEP this subject and withdrawal before this class turns into a bad grade. (CLEP is pass/fail- so your existing GPA will stand)

I have been a community college teacher for 17 years, this is a totally legitimate way to earn credit, but colleges don't exactly "advertise" the option.

Wow, I had no idea this was possible, what if I am passed my withdraw date? Also will this affect financial Aid at all, I have to take 12 credits.

12? Are you sure? I can't answer all of those questions- but here is who can:

financial aid office- "what happens if I drop this class?"

registration office- "when is the deadline to drop with a 'w'?"

nursing advisor- "can CLEP Intro. Psychology be used toward completion of my degree?"

testing center- scheduling times/fees for exam (if your school has a fee, it is 2 payments- one to College Board for $80 and one to your college- that can be any amount, maybe $10-$20)

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!:yeah:

I'm taking Psych 101 as well. Yes, I agree it is tough but I'm going to try and hang in there. Those essays are killers!!! I could use a little support from anyone out there. Sometimes I get stumped and this brain freezes!! Anyone want to partner up?

Oh my goodness. I am working on an asssignment right now as I type. I was looking online for some help with one of my assignments. I am having such a hard time in this class. There is so much reading and by the time I have completed the reading I only have a couple days to finish my assignment. I have the same problem with my teacher. I am still waiting on my last assignment that I turned in almost a week ago to be graded. All of my assignments get points taken off because I need to go MORE IN DEPTH. I email my instructer to see what that means exactly or asking a question about the actual assignment itself, and by the time the instructer answers me, I am already moved on to the next assignment. I currently have a 74% and am doing my best.

I agree with whoever said to consider dropping the class and taking another instructor if at all possible.

I'm in a gen psych class now and yes its a lot of reading but the exams are well matched with what I'm reading so an A is easily attainable. Whatever you decide, good luck!
