Hello, my name is sarah. Currently i have yet to finish highschool, i wont go into that right now however. I am going to be studying for my GED test really soon though, and after that i would like to go for my BSN, like start at the tech college and than after i take all my pre nursing classes i will go to SCSU, however before i do that i want to explain my reason and as if anyone has any better suggestions cause i want to make absolutly sure that im going for the right thing. I very much so want to work with mothers and their babies during labor, delivery, and after while theyre recovering, or with the babies in the nicu, well im not sure thought if i could handle the nicu, im not the strongest when it comes to things like that, however i started having these dreams when i was about 15 and than they went away after my grandfather had a double bypass surgery and i saw him in the icu hooked up to all those tubes, thats when i knew i wasnt strong enough, but recently my AMAZINGLY sweet little God child was born:balloons::heartbeat:hbsmiley::1luvu:and i cant even tell you how much i love her, and how much it braught back my urge to want to work in OB, i was there through everything and i know i can handle it, however, like i was saying its a delema cause i dont wanna be a doctor and i dont nessesarily want to be a midwife, i just wanna work with the mothers and the babies and be there for them and help take care of them, and i also found out while we were in the hospital that theres another job i want to work on after i get my BSN is i would like to become a lactation consultant, so if theres anyone out there with some suggestions please help cause im so exited to prepare for my career and im pretty sure its becoming a BSN and than a lactation consultant but i wanna make sure there arent some other great jobs out there that i dont know about, also so you can see my sweet little angel heres how to get there go to

I think it's awesome that at your young age you know what you want to do! I say go for it! If God put the dream in your heart, He'll help it come true.
As far as going to school - get your GED, and then begin taking the basic pre-req's needed to get into the nursing program. The best advice I can give you is to get the list of classes needed to get into the program you want, and begin with everything except Math & Science! Save the Math(College Algebra, Statistics) & Science (Anatomy& Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition) for last. That's because most schools have a 5 year time limit on the Math & Science courses. And since you'll need to take English, Sociology, Psychology, Child & Lifespan Psychology, Speech, and possibly a few others your school requires - you should start with those. Then if life throws you a curve-ball you won't stress over your classes timing out and needing to take them again!
And remember to not bite off more than you can chew- meaning don't take too many classes at the same time!!! Your grades matter SO MUCH when getting into Nursing school! Nursing school is competitive - so take only what you can handle, study well, and make good grades.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! And you can even get the job you dream of, too! Like you, I always wanted to work with Women & Children. I had a difficult pregnancy & delivery, and was so moved by the wonderful caring nurses I had while in the hospital. People will tell you that you have to work MED/SURG first - but that's not true. I just graduated with my ADN, and I'm a Postpartum Nurse. Dreams can come true - SO DON'T STOP BELIEVING!
Good Luck & God Bless!:balloons:
Thank you so much for responding and giving me those super awesome words of encouragement. I know your a wonderful Nurse and keep doing what your doing and now i can tell everyone who tells me that ill have to work in all the other areas first that thats not true cause i was afraid of that, i mean i will if i have to but i would be so much more helpfull working in the area that i believe i was meant to work in, Thank you and have an awesome night
Also i forgot to say God bless you too

You might see if there is a volunteer program at your local hospital. Request volunteering in the maternal/infant area. A training program is usually required and ID badges issued for security. Good Luck!!!!
