I need information or suggestion about nclex

Published

Hi I'm about to graduate in BSN here in Philippines. I will graduate on March 2015. Here is my question:

1. Does reviewing the local board exam in the Philippines will help me pass the nclex?

2. Is it required to take the local board exam in the Philippines to apply for the nclex exam?

3. Where is it less expensive to take nclex in the US or in the Philippines?

4. What are the requirements of NCLEX for foreign nurses?

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

You don't apply for the NCLEX. You apply for a nursing license by examination as an internationally educated nurse. Preparing for the nle will not prepare you fully for the NCLEX . You need to use NCLEX preparation materials

Whether you need a license from the country of education depends on the state board of nursing. Some yes, others no. You need to choose the state where you want to live and work. Are you a US citizen or PR with a valid SSN? Many states will not accept your application (or issue a nursing license) without a valid US SSN.

The cost for the NCLEX is $200. If you take the exam overseas there is an additional fee. The fees for a nursing license by examination depend on the state BoN and range from $100-$350. Many require a credentials assessment from CGFNS that is an addition cost of about $300 or so.

There are no NCLEX requirements for foreign nurses as the NCLEX is an exam not an agency. The requirements for a nursing license by examination varies by state board of nursing. Many require proof of English language proficiency via TOEFL or IELTS. Most require CGFNS assessment. California has their own IEN assessment team and does not require CGFNS assessment but unless your program meets the strict standards of CABRN the odds of being denied without further concurrent theory & clinical are pretty high. You need to look at the state board of nursing for specific requirements.

If you are not a citizen/PR with a valid SSN your application will be automatically rejected in several states including CA, MD & VT and now NJ. Until you have a SSN you will not be issued a license in other states like TX & FL.

Thank you for your reply. It is helpful.

I'm a Filipino citizen, married to American citizen. I think I will be going to Minnesota. What you are saying is that, it is better to take the NCLEX exam in the US as it will cost us less money. Where is it better to take an NCLEX review in the US or in the Philippines?

As soon as you graduate I suggest looking at the state BON and checking out requirements for International trained nurse. Usually processing times for application is 4-6 months before you get approval to sit NCLEX

NCLEX exam centers are places all over the USA located in/near major cities. I suggest taking NCLEX in USA.

NLCEX Review- Don't waste your time / money taking it in Philippines, too many scammers trying to advantage of people there, plus they will try to make it last like 2 or 3 months and then try to charge you US prices. Best to take like a Kaplan Review / Hurst Review here.

If you have your school send your Transcripts via DHL/LBC/UPS/FedEx to CGNFS to have evalution then you can probably be ready to sit for NCLEX in a 2 month from date of graduation.

Within a few days of you hitting US Soil you will have your GreenCard and Social Security card.

Good Luck.....

Its sound good that is very helpful. Thank you

How long will it take to review in kaplan or hurst?
