Okay Guys, I Just Recently Passed My Nclex-pn Exam And Looking Forward To Getting My Rn. My Problem Is That My Pre-requsites Are More Than 5 Years Old And In Most Schools Here In Maryland They Require You To Have Pre-requisites That Are Less Than 5 Years Old. Most Schools Want Me To Repeat These Courses, But I Don't Feel Like I Should Have To Start All Over Again From The Beginning. I've Been On Waiting List After Waiting List In Various Schools In The Past And No Reply. I've Gotton Accepted Before In A Rn Program But Wasn't Successful In Completing The Program, And That's Why I Went For The Lpn Program. I Really Want To Become A Rn, But I Refuse To Start From The Beginning. Those Anyone Know Any School That Has A 10 Limit On Pre-requisites Or That Don't Have A Time Limit At All? I've Even Thought About Going Into Another Major Completely That Would Accept My Pre-quisites Even Though I Don't Really Want To Go Into Another Major. What Suggestions Do You Have For Me?

This is what I am hearing...most are telling people that after 5 to 10 years, the sciences have to be repeated. I hear, though, that Excelsior does not do this...they will accept those prior credits, in case you want to investigate that route. I can understand how you feel, revisiting these courses again. But, if you really want to be an RN, check out Excelsior or you may have to bite the bullet and repeat them. It may not be as bad as you think. I believe that I can probably handle anatomy and micro again, if I had to because I have more to apply to it, now.
THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING. I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT EXCELSIOR BUT NOT SURE IF IT'S APPROVED BY MARYLAND BOARD OF NURSING(MBON). I TRIED CALLING MBON SEVERAL TIMES BUT NO ANSWER OR AN ANSWERING SERVICE PICKS IT UP. I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT PROGRAM FOR ME BEING THAT I DO BETTER ON MY OWN PACE. IF POSSIBLE CAN YOU PLEASE FIND OUT FOR ME OR IF YOU KNOW ANYONE THAT'S FROM MARYLAND WHO WENT THROUGH THE PROGRAM? IF EXCELSIOR DOESN'T WORK OUT......I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.

As far as I know Excelsior is no longer recognized by the MBON. I am right with ya with regard to repeating things! I picked my RN bridge program and my BSN program almost solely based on what transfer credits they would accept. Imvho everything in academia is negotiable and if your grades are super good you really should have some leeway when it comes to getting your older sciences accepted. Definitely get some face time with the Director of Nursing programs because AACC, CCBC and CCCC all accepted my 20+year old A&P1 after I got an A in A&P2 within the past 5 years, never did take a basic college biology class. I also talked my way into a Statistics class without ever having college Allgebra. Many will accept CLEPs that are a cheap and easy way to prove that you are still current with the knowledge. Find a way to make it work.
Unfortunately if your grades are spotty you will have to jump through more hoops for them because its all about who is a good bet for passing NCLEX the first time. If they know you test well and will do the work necessary you become more valuble to them, imo. Best of luck to you!
P.S. Depending on where you live York in PA has a nice LPN to BSN bridge program and they are wonderful about taking a lot of CLEP credits.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR REPLYING. I WILL GIVE YOUR SUGGESTIONS A TRY. YES, MY SCIENCE A PRETTY GOOD. I'VE TRIED CCBC AND HOWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE THEY WANTED ME TO REPEAT SOME CLASSES, AND I WASN'T HAVING THAT. AACC IS KIND OF A DISTANCE FROM ME. I WAS REALLY BETTING ON EXCELSIOR BUT I GUESS THAT'S OFF THE TABLE.

Did you actually meet with the Director of those Programs? I try to avoid the regular counselors like the plague and head right for the top. I have heard that Harford CC has a nice program but don't know first hand. Good luck and don't give up.
P.S. A little pointer on AACC, great program but make sure you have an AA county address. :)
