I need help on which way to turn

Hello All! :heartbeatI don't know what to do!! I am a 24 y/o future nurse.I am currently in community college finishing up my pre-req's and hoping to get into a nursing program by next semester of fall '09. I have a 1yr old son, single parent. Nursing school is expensive I dont know how I will make it thru without taking out loans cuz u cant really work FT.

I just recently had some circumstances beyond my control happen and now I have to withdraw out of my micro class . I am also afraid I this will set me back. I want to do this and finish before my son turns 4 (that's my goal).I have a huge support system, and my son father is still in his life even though we are no longer together. So the time is now while the help is here.

I am also serving in the Army Reserve and my contract ends in Aug of 09 . I dont want to be selfish to my son by staying in and possibly deploying but at the same time I dont want to struggle and run into massive debt. The reserve is offering me 15,000 to stay in for another 6 yrs. Im scared I dont know what to do I just want to do what is best for us....I do really want to be a nurse though. I eventually want to be a FNP but im not sure if I should do an ADN or a BSN. I have a job as a CNA and overall, I love it ....Plz help me out ...Thanks

I don't know how involved your son's father is in his life but I think you should talk to him about it if you haven't already and maybe he can keep your son more. As far as being selfish and staying in the reserves for six more years while getting 15,000 I don't think you would be if you took the money because you trying to further you education to support you and your son. I understand your fear of being deployed I myself don't want to go in the military because of that but you gotta do what go have to. Do you have someone lined up to take you son in case you do get deployed. When it come to ADN vs BSN I personally think ADN would be faster and more cost effective because it's less expensive and wouldn't take as long as a BSN. While with a BSN depending on the program it could take two to three years to finish and is more expensive. In addittion seeing how you don't have a BS in another field you couldon't apply to an accelerated program. Hope this helps and the best of luck to you. :D

i feel for you. very tough decision to make. i too had a lot of passion, no money and a daughter to raise on my own. my daughter's father is long gone and so i had to drop out of school for a semester to not only find him to get child support, but to work to pay for me and my baby's expenses. i had to do what i had to do, even though it put my goal on hold. sometimes we have to take a different, longer, harder road than we had originally planned. in the end, i was able to go back to school the following semester after working full-time + over time at a job i hated to save money. i also started getting support for my daughter which takes care of most of her expenses.

maybe you will have to do the same. i can tell you that real passion never dies. hardships and hurdles make you want the prize even more.

don't let this stop you. take care of yourself and your family and then continue on your journey:wink2:

good luck to you
