i hate the nclex
1 Post
Hello all fellow nurses on this forum I am in a pickle that I need help with. I am a new grad and already attempted the nclex one and failed (boy does that suck) I would like to take the nclex again by the end of this month and have been doing tons and tons of questions and have improved in all my weak areas except Pharmacological and Parenteral therapies. Now the problem with this is its 13%-19% of the test and just this one catergory can cause me to fail at my second attempt. My school was not very strong in Pharm actually they suck at teaching it and they require you to take it during your second semester which is during our first clinical rotation where we don't go near the drugs. I did have 2 clincial rotations where I distributed meds but most of the meds I gave were the same over and over again. I have tried the trick of studying the classes of meds and side effects etc but the nclex names specific drugs with many not so easily recognized in their class so to be blunt I SUCK AT KNOWING SPECIFIC NAMED MEDICATIONS WITHOUT A DRUG BOOK!!!! Does anyone out there have another suggestion to help me pass this part of the nclex?????

Springhouse nursing drug book has an Nclex disk with Nclex questions. I used it and passed 1st attempt.
Good Luck!!!

I did Kaplan for a little over a month... I did about 50-100 questions a day and you can choose to single out your weak areas on the q-bank and only answer questions in that area until you scores increase. I stand by kaplan 100% I passed the 1st time with 75 questions by sticking to their plan I think it is well worth the money... I wish you well in your studying :wink2:

Saunders comprehensive is a good book and does look at drugs.
Would also suggest you study as if you haven't sat the exam before and practice as many questions as you can, making sure you understand the rationale. Maybe consider Suzanne's plan and all information can be found in the stickies on the main NCLEX forum page
