I am stuck between and rock and hard place. First of all I live in Los Angeles. Im either trying to go to los angeles city college or los angeles trade tech or any community colleges(IN MY AREA) that offer lvn-rn bridges. Little about myself(not to make it long) I am 20 years old still in high school yes i no(cant pass the cahsee and only 5 classes left teacher and advisor is no help). Its a home studies course i got low credits but anyway im thinking ged BUT MY MAIN QUESTION(s) are Did any of you got to a community college?

What are the routes to becoming a lvn then eventually becoming a rn?

I want to know everything from the moment where I get my ged whats the next step to?

what are the pros and cons for a ged person trying to become a nurse?

Are there jobs out there?

Is there a waiting list for the nursing program if so how long and least!!!!!

What would be the best career cma? cna? medical assistant? lvn? rn? rn-bs?

IM NOT A MATH EXPERT do I need to give up on my dream of being a nurse or doctor when I dont understand math that much I HATE FRACTIONS AND I HATE DIVISONS. ANY RESPONSE WILL BE GLADLY EXCEPTED!!!!

My recommendations who be got the LVP route I went to medical assistant school and it was just a waste of time. I just graduated LPN program in December 2011 waiting to take the Nclex and then I'm going to apply to a RN program. There tons of jobs for LPN but there in the nursing home and some doctors office. Well good luck in your endeavors.

I suggest CNA first. Than after you start working apply for a LPN program. Thats what Ive done so far medical assistance are pigeon hold into MD offices. Being a CNA first helps when your going for your lpn.

If you are having problems with the cashee, i would think some evaluation to assess for a learning disability.

Sorry I didnt say this before Plz do not judge me! Im young and dumb!!! I really don't want to get a job in a nursing home(horrible experience I have seen just not my thing yah know?) I really looking for something in a physicans office like mother-baby kinda get up lol, But everyone I do appreciate all the comments you have gave me and I am still looking for more Thank you so much. I think I might Go ahead for the cna Just for little while...While I do the lvn classes and exam and so on and so on. Morte I Actually have had coaching for the cashee but I its just didn't click at all! lol but what do you mean evaluation assess for a learning disability? I hope I can become a cna without having to go to the home aide career but hey you never know!

you need to see a pyschologist, or similar professional. and be tested for conditions that may impair you ability to learn, such as dyslexia, ADHD, processing disorders.

See morte i was thinking that this whole time but i was thinking they cant happen to me!!! maybe I should??? THANKS

Hi jessica, disregard the negative comments being told to you. Finish your H.S. diploma its the best route and find a better counselor. I didn't have a problem with passing exams just personal issues that almost messed me up in getting my H.S. diploma and people were pushing GED but this excellent Counselor in my H.S. pushed me to finish and I did busting my butt doing day and evening school for a yr to graduate on time. Im from NY btw which is real hard with 6 regents exams you have to pass in order to get your diploma. So find a better advisor and get tutoring if possible. And as for the question about which route to take, do the LPN route. You're still young , I am almost finished with my LPN 1 month away and im 25 I've seen people in their 50's in my program so its never too late. I did CNA and it was a waste of money and time , You can get your CNA if you like after doing fundamentals in nursing from an LPN program so doing CNA is a waste of money. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it because I know students who have graduated who struggled with language or were pregnant and still made it. Much success in your future endeavors and never let anyone tell you that you cant.

I am currently going to LPN route and then on to my RN, not sure if I am going the ASN route quite yet, or straight for my BSN, but I'll figure that out eventually. I am currently doing clinical rotations in a nursing home facility right now and I really didn't think I was going to be able to do it as well, but it has worked out amazingly for me so far, but I also haven't had any bad experiences, but I had heard plenty of stories that made me feel as if I wouldn't be able to handle it. I have 4 more days there, and let me tell you...I have loved every bit of it! Some of the people you meet in there will change your life. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck! Choose what feels right to you! :)

Thank you you two!!! I was wondering Another thought I just made up in my head to go ahead and do cna its only like what 8 weeks then work as a cna while doing the classes for lvn because you know it takes almost up to 2 years to become a lvn or should I try and get another job while doing lvn like retail,Administrative ETC.........

LVN program is typically 1 year and if you pass the fundamentals course in your LVN program you can take your CNA exam without doing the CNA course. CNA is not a fun job but if you need the funds then go for it . It gives you experience in dealing with patients and doing some basic care for patients so experience is never a bad thing. I would advise against doing full time job though it makes the program really hard when you taking away study time.

IM NOT A MATH EXPERT do I need to give up on my dream of being a nurse or doctor when I dont understand math that much I HATE FRACTIONS AND I HATE DIVISONS. ANY RESPONSE WILL BE GLADLY EXCEPTED!!!!

My advice is this: Get a tutor for math. I hate math as well fractions, etc. Believe me I understand. Forget the Med Assistant...waste of time and money. I Graduated from an MA program and it will be almost 2 years and no job. I am continuing to become an RN....earn my BSN actually and I recommend you do the same. Better opportunities for the future. If you don't want to do RN yet or can't then I would say LPN/LVN program or CNA. Although LPN/LVN usually are employed in nursing homes passing out meds. Don't quote me on that....this was told to me by someone in the field. So that being said...CNA would be a better route I guess because you will work in a hospital and see first hand what goes on and work side by side with nurses. Have you spoken to any nurses or CNA's in your area? Try volunteering in a hospital and make friends with the CNA's and RNs so you can get the real scoop! Best of luck and don't worry about the math practice and get someone to help you one on one....that is what I did. You Can Do It! :)
