Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone, My name is Lisa. I graduated from the LPN program May 2010. First, I want to say it hasnt been an easy ride. Every test I tool in the LPN program I struggled with. Nothing has ever been easy for me. But that doesnt mean I wont try. I tested soon after graduation I will admit I focus on memorizing instead of application. Obviously that didnt work out. The second time I took my time around, I study different. I used the Kaplan strategies I did the Kaplan online Question in the Bank (Even if I would get it right I would review EVERY rational). The first time I tested I got 87 questions. Which according to what I know the ONLY reason after 85 questions you will continue to get more is because your still in the game! So the second time I got 170. Which means my readiness improved. And I tested again not to long and again I got about the same questions. This time I studied the Kaplan strategies once more. Also EXAM CRAM all the questions. I just found out I failed today. So going in again for the FOURTH time it looks like. And since I graduated 2010 (IOWA) I only have another year to test then I'm either done or go back to the LPN program. I can honestly say with everything I know I can truelly say its NOT the material its not that I dont know it. I know myself. But I tried almost everything. As I was taking the Nclex I realize OMG this questions are making sense to me, but I'm still having trouble chosing the BEST ANSWER!!! I kno thats what my problem is!!! And I feel so discourage because no one can really help me. I am seekign out help ANY way shape or form. I'm not giving up. This is what I love to do work with PEOPLE. It brings tears to my eyes everytime because I know, I know the material (otherwise I wouldnt of passed the class). Im staying focus and keeping a positive attitude. I'm just very frustrated I dont know what to do anymore. I want this so bad, I want this so so so bad :( As you can see I even went online and saw this AMAZING website and I am only hoping somebody reads it and replies. Please give me any advice and what helped you that might help me.

For those who are reading this and have taken the Nclex more than 2 or 3 times please answer this: Why do u think u passed the third time? What did u do different?

Please guys help me, Im literarly BEGGING for help!!!

Thank you guys and GOD BLESS every single one of you

What I did the third time and passed was just concentrated on answering questions and reading the rationale. I would suggest reading the rationale even if you got it right. Only study an area if you find you are having difficulties answering questions in that area. I only used Saunders and NCSBN

How long are you studying for everyday? I'm sorry it has been a struggle, but keep your head up. When I test I think like I an in a clinical setting, and that seems to help me.

i'm sorry that you're having trouble passing your nclex exam. i would suggest, as others have, definitely focus of what you perceive to be your weaknesses. also, instead of doing total review, try to do as many questions a day as you can and right or wrong, read and understand all rationales. try to become an "expert" on how to answer questions. good luck to you.:)

When taking any nursing exam, the HESI, and the RN-NCLEX, I did not always know the correct answer; however, I could most of the time identify the incorrect answers. Have you ever thought of looking at it that way?? Eliminate the answers that you know are incorrect.

at fxmama i would get up at 5am review thru some questions of exam cram like 200 then 200 more questions and reviewed the rationals even if i got it right! so i would say throughout the day an average of 7 hours. i would take breaks of course but i maintain a routine.

at churchsgirl i have a pn book hesi should i study it? i mean idk anymore.

its so frustrating because, i take exams online the review ?'s online and i score high, so i know its not the material i dont know. i hate myself because i know whats wrong with me ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even when i was taking the test i am able to eliminate 2 out of the four and i'm still having trouble chosing the best answer.....thats my problem and who can help me? i cant give up though. this is what i want to do i want to be a nurse so fucken bad omg!!!! i just want to scream. i want this and i know whats my problem :(

time is running out and all i can think of is finding a tutor, but where? theirs no one. i'm really trying and god knows i want this, i dont know anymore.

I wish I had the answers :( If the material is not your problem, then I honestly wouldn't take the time to read the HESI book. Good luck to you!

you know, they say that if you are studying anymore than 2 hours per day you are not retaining anything after that 2 hour mark. i know i have difficulty picking the best answer after narrowing...have you see something like this?

[color=#ffffff]________:

[color=#ffffff]________:

[color=#ffffff]..........cardiac

[color=#ffffff]..../[color=#ffffff]............ ......... \

[color=#ffffff]../[color=#ffffff]............. . \

[color=#ffa500]renal[color=#ffffff].............. psychological

[color=#ffffff],,,,,,,[color=#2f4f4f]everything else

i used this diagram when taking my test....i guess it's kinda like a maslows or abc type of narrowing...but every question i was having difficulty with, i would look at this one to decide what the best option based off of this information...also pick out those key words like "sudden" and things along that line. hope this helps a little.

sorry if the diagram doesn't come out the way i intend it to....for some reason it is editing what i want to be there.

i been on a mission. i even talked to my previous proffesors and sadly they are no help!!! so whats my next option? i need a person to person to tell me what am i doing wrong? i also tested the 27th and i should get my results (my weakness and my strengths). i been very discourage guys i even talked to a friend who's a nurse practiciner (sorry for the spelling) she told me she knows exactly what i mean and she said she cant help me, see what im saying? i dont wanna give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at blacklily: what did u study? how many hours? and what kind of student where u throughout the program? sorry just wanting to see if your like me. i need all the advice i can get! and i would appreciate it. how many ?'s did u get? i got 171

Ok hun...let's look at this...how are you approaching your questions? When you answer are you using critical thinking skills in combination with your MASLOW and ABC needs? Which questions do YOU feel you struggle with the most?

I'm so sorry to hear your story. But I'm moved w/ your courage to not give up. That's a good start. :) In my opinion, you should practice more questions, and maybe using a DIFFERENT SOURCE. There is always a good and a bad thing in each reviewer, so as much as you practice in more questions w/ various sources, you can really assess yourself, and hopefully can help you to get the correct answers this time. BUT, you do not answer them all at the same time. Make a study plan, i.e this month you're going practice answering Kaplan Qbanks, then next month, Hurst or whatever, so on and so forth. Good luck in your studies and keep on praying.
