May I ask what state you are in? Many of the MD's and NP's in my state are not prescribing pain meds any more. People are selling them. This has been on the news nightly. I know one MD that has a police officer sit outside the practice due to her prescribing pain meds. This has become very scary. Also one MD told me that elderly are selling theirs as well due to the cost of food increasing. I have been thinking about this for weeks because I do not know where the answer lies. I was taught in nursing school that "pain is what the patient says it is".

I am in Florida and it is BAD down here. Cover yourself and be careful. I hear that the money is great but the risks are high both personal and professional.

Wow,, this explains my husbands dilemma. Dxd with chronic myofascia pain 20 yes ago. Put on nortryptilline 150 mg at hs. Takes himself off cause of the grogginess. Ffwd, we get new pmd who doesn't like that hubby is taking 2400 mg ibuprofen/day. So we start with pt which literally you can see the right side of his back tense up into a knot. Then we see a " pain specialist" recommends pt, not knowing we already tried. He won't do injections cause the pain is too generalized. I'm frustrated not knowing why they just won't prescribe a dang pill. Isn't lyrica for this?? He just wants to be pain free. And these druggies are ruining it for us
So good luck to the OP, I hope you get answers! And I hope you do protect yourself emotionally as im sure it could be very taxing on the psyche.

Actually the problem started about 10 years ago when surveyors went into facilities and found patients weren't pain free. So they decided to make it an initiative that patients should not be in pain greater than a 2 on a 0-10 scale. So, patients then learned that their doctors had to give them something for pain. My mom's doctor even told her "this is a pain free state, there is no reason for you to be in pain" (Florida). Now they want to blame it on disreputable as well as legit docs. Making it very hard for legitimate patients.
It appears that the druggies are ruining it for those who so need help. Bad situation. Docs have to be very careful with rx. Most just send to pain mgt. Pain mgt sends to physical therapy.
When I was in the er, you would be shocked at people that show up all night long. They want dilaudid topped off with phenergan. Amazing.
