I must have missed the chapter on bites

So, I took my written and skills test last week, passed (YAY). I go to work on SUnday, and I was helping to transfer a resident from wheelchair to recliner, when all of a sudden my forearm ends up in her mouth. Yes!!!!! she bit me. Never saw it coming. I ended up in the ER cause I didn't have a tetnus booster. I did not pull my arm away, cause I was afraid of hurting myself more and what damage would it have done to her mouth. So I let her stay on my forearm till the supervisor and the other cna's were able to distract her enough to let go. Just another day, I guess!!!

Biters are bad but the spiters are worse! So disgusting! And then you get the ones that punch and lash out and often times its the CNAs that are in trouble when it happens. Those are some of the many reasons I'm letting my license go dead. The BSN program here doesn't require it, thank god!

Ah. the joy of the biters...................even more fun than the spitters, scratchers, and naked runner arounders.

I don't have any nekkid runners, my 3 nudists are pretty much bed bound. But they are apparently lovers of sleeping in the altogether because I CAN"T keep a gown on them and it's always a show when you go in their rooms. I think I'm glad they can't streak on their own!

Ugh. I know. Especially after they've JUST eaten lunch and then decide to spit on you. *It* landed on my lips. Thank God my mouth was closed!! :barf01:

I learned when doing oral care with disposable swabs, always ball your hand up into a fist. Any fingers sticking out when your hand is near their mouth are very likely to be punctured. :bluecry1:

Sheesh.

I've had my hand grabbed with a iron grip by a resident who years before had given another CNA a black eye.

I am glad that you are all right for the most part. Stuff like that shakes up though. It's not right.

Never been bitten, but had a resident dig her fingernails into my arm enough to break the skin. Now that was fun.

The worst residents are the ones who fart/have projectile bowel movements in your face, on purpose.

:barf02: We can only hope that their aiming abilities are sub-par!! Otherwise, you may swear off eating brownies forever! ;)

Oh, I dodged it pretty well. The bed wasn't so lucky though. :D

Aww, lol! I've had that happen to me. I've been punched, kicked, clawed, bitten, groped, spit on, cussed out, had my ponytail pulled, had things (dirty briefs, bm, emesis basins and bedpans as well as chairs and food trays) thrown at me....etc. I was fairly new at the time. It isn't pleasant but you do learn how to not aggravate them further and how to duck in time. I am glad you're okay. :) Keep ice on your tetorifice injection site if it swells (mine sure did!). It's something though. The is one resident who constantly tried to beat me up when I first started...I used to dread going into his room sometimes because of his mood. Apparently, I reminded him of an ex wife.... anyway, when he passed on later, I was so broken up over his death. I realized how much I really like the rambunctious ones, lol. Good luck. :)
