Hello everyone :)
I'm a first year nursing student.... I'm a little over a month into my first semester. Although nursing school takes alot of time and effort I must say that I love nursing school. I just hope I'll continue to love it even when I get to med surg, peds, pharmacology and other complex subjects. So far we've had two exams and I got A's on both of them. I have a pretty set guide of how to study effectively to get A's , and just hope I continue to get great grades. Overall, I must give thanks to GOD, because with out him I would not be this successful. He gives me the strength everyday to work full-time, go to school, and study everyday. Everytime before I have an exam I pray that God relieves my anxiety and bless me to do well, so far its working. I just want to encourage everyone, that nursing school is doable... especially if you love to learn. Sometimes its hard to stay focused with everything thats going on, but if you want it bad enough you will work even harder. When ever I asked how nursing school was before I started, everyone said its hard, terrible, bootcamp like, and difficult... those words kind of got to me and I received a bad outlook on nursing school. But I 'm here to day to tell anyone who's getting ready to start, that so far its not too bad. I absolutely love it !
:confused:I am know taking my pre-requisites at a community college so i can transfer to a university for nursing. I am a single mother and also working 60 hours a week taking two night classes. I get very discouraged when i can't grasp a concept. At the moment i am taking an algebra class and it is kicking my butt!! my first test i studied and got a 76! im so stressed that im not going to be able to do it. - any words of wisdom
I too had a lot of trouble with Algebra. Almost flunked out of Intermediate Algebra in the beginning of the program, so right away got a tutor. Made it out with a B, and continued with the tutor throughout college algebra. Proud to say I made an A in that class. Tutors are sometimes available at local colleges free of charge or for nominal fees. If no luck there, try an adult education program...I found these are available to anyone that needs them, (I thought just for GED, but they also tutor/test college students) are no cost in our state and have varying hours. Hope this helps and good luck to you. Hang in there!
Well I just wanna say I love nursing school too! Wrapping up my first semester and its been a roller coaster ride of emotions but I love it! I also went in with a lot of fear after hearing how horrible nursing school is. Well, it hasn't proven thus far to be this scary thing that is just soooooo awful. Challenging, yes. At times I'm uber stressed and feel pushed to my limit, but ya know what, I have not crumbled. Its brought out the best in me. Any doubts that I had about being able to do this are long gone. I know I can meet all challenges that come my way in nursing school. Its been tough, but Ive risen to the occasion and my self confidence is flying high right now! I love nursing school!
Your post brought a smile to my face! I am getting pinned next Thursday and graduating on Friday, so I have been through 2 1/2 years of the madness euphemistically referred to as "nursing school". Right now, I am SO "over" school, but you made me remember a time when I loved it. Everyday I would go home and tell my boyfriend all the cool new stuff I learned. I enjoyed studying, even. I am exhausted now, but I still have a glimmer of enthusiasm once in awhile. I wish you luck, and hope that your enthusiasm stays with you throughout your nursing school journey!
I can honeslty say I agree with you, I LOVE NURSING SCHOOL!!! :redpinkhe I am just finishing up my first semester of nursing school, and yes it is very challenging but I just love going to school everyday, I love clinicals, and learning new things everyday. I specially like making a difference in my patients lives. I hope I can continue to love nursing school throughout all these upcoming semesters, I know its going to be difficult but I have a goal to accomplish which is being an RN. Good luck to all of you in nursing school :stdnrsrck:
