I LOVE my job

Published

I graduated in May, went into the ER, and just finished my internship last week. It was SUPER scary being all alone those first few days, but all of the experienced nurses go ALL OUT to make sure I am covering all the bases. Sure I have made mistakes, but I never am made to feel stupid about them! I am so glad that I went into nursing! Does anyone else feel this way? Kirsten :balloons:

Well, no, but I'm certainly glad to hear of your happiness and good fortune!

:)

I just started my first LPN job at a LTC facility. I was so nervous. I have only been on orientation for a few days but I love it. Everyone is so nice. I get 6 weeks or orientation and if I need more time, I get it. They are really into safety. Never do anything you are unsure of...they keep telling me. I am part time and they are working around my school schedule. (I am going for my RN). Students are exempt from mandation. On top of that, the pay is good. So far I am just loving it. I had an Ah Ha moment. I really feel I belong in LTC. I just love the residents. Unfortunately, I am sometimes made to feel like I should go for a hospital job. (I hated my hospital rotation). There seems to be a certain presitge about working at the hospital in my area. However, I think this is just crazy. I think it is important to hear some positive posts once in awhile. I was the most nervous student in my school. I almost quit many time. (I actually think I went into depression for a time). I had to see a doctor and a therapist. (still do) but I made it through and now I feel great. It was so worth it. If I can do it...anyone can. Colleen

Fantastic - I'm so glad you are happy! I loved the ER - its one place you either love or hate. The adrenaline rush is second to none!

I love my job in the neonatal icu! :) I wish more new interns on this website felt the same way too. So far I am a little more than 1/2 way through my new grad internship (14 weeks done so far). I can't imagine doing anything better right now. What has helped me is having a great preceptor, supportive staff, and, of course, the adorable patients. :) It has definitely been stressful at times and I have made some mistakes. I just hope I continue to feel this good about my job. Every day is a learning experience and I enjoy finding new ways to improve my skills so I can become more independent.

Actually, yes, I do love my job.

There are lots of challenges (understatement), and I've made more than a few mistakes, but I don't even want to take a lunch break sometimes. I feel like I'm getting energy back from the patients, and some of the people I work with, and it keeps me going.

I'm older (31), and I've had a few "careers" so far (aka crappy jobs), and I think nursing really is what you make of it. Just like everything else, I know, but there's something about nursing that puts it right in front of your face. You can really calm people, stop their pain, teach them something, change their outlook... I really sound like an overly optimistic newbie now.

The trick is not to get caught up in negativity, politics, gossip, backstabbing, etc... It's like walking through a mine field sometimes, but so worth it. :balloons:

Thats great to hear!

I just started in the MICU about a month ago and I absolutely love what I am doing too. I never thought I would like it as much as I do. In ICU everyday is a challenge and you really get to use your brain. Its challenging but I am definately never bored! I'm glad some of us are actually having a GOOD time at the beginning of our careers!

I wish all jobs were like that! It does no good to try to make people intimidated or feel stupid - what good does it do? You are blessed, to be sure!

I'm very happy to hear new nurses loving what they do. It is such a challenge to go from student to nurse. I did not think nursing school prepared me for the "real thing". I hear so many new nurses disillusioned with their first job b/c they really didn't know what to expect. Yay for those of you who have transitioned into something good. I like hearing happy endings.

What a refreshing post! Thanks.

I plan on saying I love my job some day. I don't hate mine, but I can't wait to say I love it.

The cool thing is, is that I WANT to get there....

Time will tell...
