Hi everyone,

Im a student in a community college trying to become an RN. Basicaly so far I have persued most general pre reqs required such as anatomy, physiology, micro... Im trying to get into a RN program immediatley and don't know what to do at this point.

I don't want to persue RN through colleges because of the wait reason. I hear lotterys may take long. Although I hear private schools take you on the spot. I know that there is a cost variation between the two but im willing to pay for that. I also hear that there is a lvn-RN bridge programs in some private schools but then that would mean I have to take all the courses again which I struggled to do so and definatly avoiding.

My problem is simply my grades are all "C" s. I don't meet the cirteria for most colleges which is why im stuck with only private schools.

Is there any private schools out there excluding online that require you to have pre reqs completed only in order to get in or do you have to have an LVN liscence and then the pre reqs....im just trying to find the easy way out without getting that darn LVN lisence.

What should I do?

Any chance you can re-take some courses to better your grades? Our nursing-qualifying courses must have a C or better to even qualify and we must maintain a a CUMULATIVE 2.0GPA throughout the program. This includes ALL classes taken. Trying to better your grades may be the best route for you to an affordable and quality education. Do a little research on colleges in your area and call around to program heads to see what they require.

what school would that be for the 2.0 gpa

It sounds like you'll have to retake some courses for a higher grade. While most schools require you to have a certain GPA to get in, most of the people they take have a much higher GPA. Nursing school is VERY competetive to get into, so you have to work your butt off to get in, and even harder once you are there.

Good Luck!

Did you mean 3.0 GPA, she has a 2.0 already.

To the OP, if you struggled with prereq's, you will struggle in NS. If you feel you could do better in them at all, you should take them again. It can only help all around with you GPA and knowledge base for nursing. Good Luck!:twocents:

To answer your question, I think there are plenty of private schools that will not require you to have a LVN/LPN license before applying. Check with the private schools in your area to learn more. On another note, I agree with all of the posters about your grades. If a school takes you with all C's, you more then likely won't gradate and will be out of a lot of money to boot. I do not say this to discourage you, but to give you a reality check.

Nursing school is hard!! Pre-requisites and co-requisites are not courses to get through or just pass. They are the BASIC foundations that Nursing Students need to know to understand Nursing application. Nursing School does not review this material. Instructors will mention it briefly.

For example if you are lucky you might hear, "Do you recall blah blah blah in A&P? OK, this is why nurses blah blah blah....". If you are in advanced nurisng classes you will hear "blah..." because you have to make the connections yourself.

If you are lost, you cannot hold up lectures trying to relearn what you don't already know! Instructors won't allow it and neither will we (your fellow students). BTW, the rate of students graduating compared to being accepted is not great for most schools! There is a reason for it... Nursing is based upon the application of an understanding of science and math. It is not all smiles, fluffing pillows, and waiting for a doctor to tell you what to do next. GL.

nursing school is very competitive , and you have to try to get a higher GPA. i don't know any nursing school that will accept you with a 2.0 GPA, when they have 400 students applying with GPA's much higher. good luck and keep us posted
