I don't know what happen?

I finished my first semester a few weeks ago and I did fairly well on the test throughout the semester but I didn't do that well on the final, I thought I knew the information so I'm not sure how I failed the test. Now I'm wondering if I'm ready for Med/Surg :o

Hi. I totally relate to you on this because it happened to me. Even though I did fairly well on the exams throughout the semester, I bombed the final and failed the class. Needless to say, I was devastated. The mistakes that I made were that I was retaining the information long enough for the current exam and by the end I could barely remember. I was allowed to repeate and moved on to medsurg.

I think that was the case with me too and I should have studied for the test more. Did you find Med/Surg to be difficult. I think I also have a problem with the critical thinking question too any suggestions? They are different than what I'm use to needless to say I use to have a 4.0 gpa not anymore.

Medsurg was difficult, but I made sure that I started off on the right path. I ended up getting an A but had to work hard for it. I wish I was like other students that seemed to absorb every word. ;) I would suggest getting a tutor right at the begining. Even if you dont have trouble with all of the material, it's a great way to make sure that you really understand what you "think" you understand. You can have a tutor quiz you and then clarify what you may not get. They can also keep things fresh in your mind. Also, if your instructor offers study guides, do them. They are basically what he/ she wants you to know. Also, meet with your instructor when you are having problems, or even just to touch base. Another idea is to join a study group. Make sure that if you do, these people actually want to study and that it's a regular thing. As for critical thinking, that is an ongoing process and only gets better if you understand the material because then you know which to direction to take your thought process. Being able to recognize signs and symptoms as well as assessment information is critical. My school actually offers a 1 credit online class that has to do with nursing prioritization, delegation and critical thinking. Might be a good idea for you to see if your school does too.
