I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

No good for me today. Ive been waiting 21 days so far. This dosent make any sense because a classmate of mine took the NCLEX just one day before me, and she recieved her results in the mail days ago...

Just relax, I know how you feel but I have a classmate that took his nclex on feb 6 and didn't even get his result until now. I took last feb 14 and I got my result last March 6...so we are wondering why and we found out that it has to do something with his court order before-long time ago but it was already discharged and it appeared and shows still so I think the board hold the result and even if he pass the board will not issue the license until everything will be cleared.

Just check your mail tomorrow and be positive that all is well. Goodluck!

Ontario is in southern california about 8 hrs away from Sacramento. I just really think it depends on if the boards are behind. One of my friends mailed hers out on the 10th and got her lic. on the 26th this was in Jan. and another friend that just sent for it in Feb. it took exactly 4 wks. California just loves to kill us with all this waiting. Excuse my lang. but it sucks. You can apply at the Veterans hospital. They actually give you 6 months to get your lic. and if you can prove you sent in your fees then you will get paid the normal. I put in my application so we will see. Our school told all of us in the very beginning work in as little as 13 months. Our program was 1 yr.We all believed that this whole process takes longer than a month.

Oh yeah by the way I can look in my car and see if I have some change to send you for your donations. LOL J/K. This whole thing I think has emotionally and financially drained everyone I think.... I totally know you passed so try to relax. I know, I know easier said than done....I will say a prayer for you tonight that you get your pass letter tomorrow....

My friends who took the NCLEX the same week as me doesn't think it will be in the mail today...I kinda have that feeling too...But my mail hasn't come yet so I'm sitting and waiting...I guess I'll put in my application to the VA next week...Actually, they have my application and resume already in HR ('cause supposedly I am hired for this STEP program...don't know if you've heard but it's a studnet employment program...but yeah supposedly i'm hired and the lady who hired me says that it takes a month to process everything so until paperwork gets done then she'll know when I can start...it's been like 2 weeks and I haven't heard from her...)...Good luck on the job hunt! And yes...we're all very emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially drained....aye aye aye...

Hey didn't you test on the 15th? What time does your mail come? Well, lets hope you get it today. That is the only thing that sucks about the VA. The proess takes forever it seems. I put my application in at the VA to. Hey a heads up, the lady I spoke with at the VA told me that if you can get at least 3 letters from your clinical instructors stating your qualifications then they will put you in a higher bracket. Pay wise.... I don't know if you have any medical background but down here in southern california they will pay more if your teachers can write a letter stating what you did in your clinical rotations. So you might want to do that also.

Thank you. My friend put in so many applications and she finally got a job after almost 2 months. After she got her first job all the places that she had applied for earlier started calling her. It just seems like it's hard getting a job as a new grad. Good luck to you to and hope all works out and let me know when you get that pass letter.

Yeah I took mine on the 15th. My mail comes at about 10:45am...and nope...didn't come today either....I'm tired of waiting...I don't even care what the results are anymore...JUST KIDDING...I take that back...Hopefully it will come Monday...sigh...

I can definately get letters from my clinical instructors...they're just sooo busy...Is it really that hard to get a job as a new grad? I thought California had a shortage of Nurses...Where was your friend applying? Hospitals or care homes? I don't mind starting off anywhere...I prefer a hospital but anywhere will be great...Are you going for your RN/BSN?

Crap. It needs to hurry up and come... She applied everywhere from hospital to long care to urgent care. She is working in urgent care now but VA in april. She starts orientation the beginning of April. The urgent care she works at his horrible. She got in trouble cause this guy couldn't breath and had to do CPR and they got mad cause she didn't ask for insurance.

Didnt get my results today either alpha dog. This will make day 22 of waiting for me. The agony continues...

hey everyone!! ok.. here's a random thought from me on a sat nite.... each time i think about taking the nclex, i'm perplexed as to how some ppl pass w/out studying the content & just doing practice questions. are those ppl just "born smart" or just good test takers? i've always believed that passing the nclex consisted of knowing content + knowing how to take the test (ie: doing practice questions). maybe i'm just getting frustrated because i know it's not possible for me to remember EVERYTHING i've read. on top of that, i'm using kaplan q bank (plus the kaplan book on test strategy) & it just makes me feel so frustrated. :o GRRRRR!!! originally i was planning on taking the test at the end of march, cuz of that change in april. but i just feel like i'm cramming............ *sigh*

When you refer to "studying the content" do you refer to reviewing everything you learned in nursing school? I dont think thats possible because it would be an overload of information. Thats why I think doing straight Q&A is a more effective study tool for the NCLEX. It presents you with the info in a format thats easier to remember and it gets you into the critical thinking mode.

Hi, I just wanted to know if we can take the NCLEX before graduation like in our senior year. Is that possible in CA?

Thanks.

No its not because when they send in your application to test they have to send in all your lecture hours and clinical hours. You can not test until you have completed all your hours.... That would be nice but you can't.

raffy.... i'm more referring towards reading everything in saunders. i knoe what u mean about information overload. bcuz even though i gave myself enuff time to finish reading saunders i still feel like i can't remember EVERYTHING. i've been doing Q&A saunders as well as kaplan. kaplan is hard & gets me frustrated, but u're right tho. it helps me to think even more in depth when it comes to critical thinking.... stuff that will help when i take the nclex. what did u do to help u pass?
