I just got my NET scores back :(

Hey all

I took my NET about a week and a half ago and I just got my scores today. My math was 94% but my reading comprehension was only 47%, giving me a 71% composite. :o I'm so upset with myself, and I'm really wondering if I will even be able to get into any nursing school. I have a 4.0 will all my pre-reqs done, but I don't know if that will even help any. I would appreciate any advice or possibly stories of hope. Thank you so much for your help!

Hey sorry you're so bummed! As far as NET scores needed, my private school requires a 75%, but even really wanting closer than a 80%. I don't know if the school sets its on standards or if it is state requirements, I'm really not sure! I think you can take it again in a couple weeks. Have you heard from the school you are applying to about it, what did they say about your scores?

I emailed TWU about it, but I haven't gotten a reply. I know they require a 55% for the reading comprehension. I am hoping they will still take my application into consideration. If not, I am hoping for UT-Houston. I hope I stand a chance at UT. Will I be able to retake the NET anytime soon? I was told that I could take it once a year but I am not sure how much truth there is to that. Thanks for the reply!

I know for sure you can retake, I do not know if there is any waiting period in between? Did you just get your results today/tonite?

Yeah I got them today in the evening.

Well I'd call my school first thing tomorrow and ask for a reschedule ASAP. Are you using any sort of study guide for the exam? There is a ton of comp on that exam, whew. I was like what the hell..lol.....I couldn't believe it myself.

Yeah it kind of threw me off. I know I didn't do that well when I left, but I wasn't expecting below TWU's 55%. Let's hope some nursing school will accept me.

Best wishes...I hope all works out for you the way you planned!!

I'm so sorry! :icon_hug:The minimum score on the reading comp. section needs to be 55%.

I'm not sure about the Houston campus, but at the Dallas campus, I was told that although the minimum on the reading comp. section needs to be 55%, that in order to be competitive, you will need a 65%.

TWU will allow you to take the NET test once per application period. But other schools may allow you to take it again for the fall '08 semester, or may have another, different entrance test altogether other than the NET. So unless you want to wait to apply for the spring '09 semester at TWU in order to re-take the NET, I would apply to other schools.

With that being said, I feel your pain about the reading section. I have a high GPA as well (not as high as yours!) and the reading part was tough for me (and I did study the NET Guide backwards and forwards).

Don't give up hope -- you will get accepted somewhere!!

Hey there.. Bummer on your test.. But I did the almost exact same thing. Except I did bad on both because I had no idea what to expect. So I studied a book that I got from my school its called the study guide for NET, HESI and HOBIT exams. It worked great for me. I was just reading the math part and thought I new everything in it so I stopped studying and took the test anyway.. Bad choice.. I read over and over this little book ($35.00) and got 96% on both and a comp of 92%. So I know if I can do it you can.. Than after all that drama I didnt even go to the school that needed it and applied to another school that wanted the HESI (way harder).. But anyhow.. You will do great your second go around. After your first you can take it anytime after that for you second chance after that its every 3 months. So good luck and hope this helps..

Thanks so much for the encouragement and replies :). Is there any other material besides the study guide provided by ERI (Study Guide for the NET, HOBET, and HELP) that I could study? Possibly any websites that offer practice?

I'm sorry you are having a hard time, microbio. I'd recommend getting that study guide put out by the same people who make the NET. I ordered the study guide, and I'm glad I did. The reading section is surprisingly challenging. If I hadn't read about the difficulty with the reading section here on this website, I would have gone into the exam without studying the study guide, thinking I'm fantastic at reading comprehension so I didn't need the study guide.

I did well on the NET, but I probably would have been in your shoes had I gone in without figuring out the 'angle' for the reading comp section. Good luck.
