I have been waiting for a year and a half and just got the call today that I was accepted to Phoenix college for Fall 08 starting a week from monday. I have only heard about MCC and CGCC does anybody know about their program? What are the teachers like? What does the schedule look like? Etc?
Any help would be great! Thanks!

I haven't heard anything about Phoenix college specifically but I know that each school within the community college district is required to hold the same standards, and have the same curriculum. The books may be different.
I believe that what you put in to your education (or any situation) is what you get out of it in return.
Anyhow, good luck and congrats!

congrats!! I am going to phoenix college too....if you want I can email you the program info they sent me but basically its M 7:30-11:50 (though the mcccd schedule shows 8-11:35) for the nursing theory class and skills lab/clinicals are W,R 7-2/6:30-2:30...the clinicals dont start until week 4 so you are in lab til then and then alternate between the lab and clinicals every other week depending on which group you are in, 1 or 2 (no idea which yet)....you need way less books than the other programs...probably with a cost of about 480'ish from what I figured.....2 uniforms with the mccdnp logo on them....and orientation is on the 19th from 8-12 at the dome conf center located at osborn and flower on the NE corner

I graduated from PC in December 2007. The classes get progressively harder and build upon earlier knowledge. Study hard, do not cheat, and refresh your memory on anything that seems forgotten from A&P. Get a good NCLEX book and study from it starting in Block 1. The questions on the tests/quizzes will be NCLEX style. Do not expect the instructors to give you anything. If it is in the chapter, you are responsible for it, whether they went over it in class or not. Sounds harsh, but it's reality. I'm not saying read every page. I am saying that you need to get really good at summarizing the general idea of each section. Hit the highlights and then go back and study the areas that are fuzzy still.
The teachers were all very good. Some better than others. They tried to prepare us for real jobs in the real world. Remember, school is one thing (you must finish school), then actually practicing is another. They teach you one thing in school and then do another in "real world". Don't worry about "real world" right now. Just focus on passing school with as high a grade as you can possibly get. I saw many students get low grades early in the semester and they were panic stricken the rest of the semester trying to catch up. Don't do this to yourself.
Phoenix college is small and the clinical locations are very nice. Good luck and keep us informed as to how you are doing!!

Got a story for regarding the emboldened statement? I LOVE good gossip
Someone in a class ahead of us was cheating (the instructors told us which class it was) and so the standards, expectations and safe-guards were heightened to such a degree it made everyone's life miserable. It affected not only those students who were caught cheating (who were thrown out of the program) but it affected everyone else that was in nursing school at the time.
My point about not cheating was this: you do not gain anything by taking short cuts. You need to learn the stuff to make you a good nurse. You WILL draw on what you learn in school. You are given so much material to learn in such a condensed amount of time. It's tempting to take short cuts. You are only cheating yourself when you do. Study hard and do the best you can to recall the info you need. If you can't recall something on a test - accept it....but don't cheat.
