CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU !!!!! :yeah:

Thank you to all for your support!!!!! :loveya:

RNloveshePharmD: I had a few questions regarding situations about ethical issues and how I would handle them. I had mostly behavioral questions, like "Tell us about a time you had a conflict, what did you do and what was the outcome." " Why should we pick you for this position?" "What are your greatest strengths" "How have you influenced someone" and questions like that. Good luck to you!!

Andiems: I LOVE The baby! :)

Thank you so much! Do you have any advice for a new-graduate nurse starting in L&D? Any insight from an experienced nurse would be wonderful!

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

My advice is to keep your eyes wide open, listen and learn.. Ask questions, ask to get your hands in on things. Do not be shy, or lazy. Ask to join in. Find several mentors even if you are assigned one.. L&D nurses tend not to call the doctors till they really want them. (I am not saying any thing about any other field), so watch and learn from them. You will be able to pick the best ones out within a week or so. My experience was the good ones love to teach new grads most of the time. Now of course there may be exceptions but it is the one area I worked where I felt the nurses worked together best.. Just my experience!

Is you job in community or teaching hospital? My experience was at Johns Hopkins so it was an EXPERIENCE in and of itself.

I also suggest you plan to get certified as soon as you work enough hours, take all the courses they offer you. And do not worry that nursing school did not teach you enough . L&D is different from other areas of nursing and you will learn lots in orientation.

Best of luck and I hope it meets all your dreams. :redpinkhe

Specializes in OB/GYN,PHN, Family Planning.

I also worked in L&D right out of nursing school. It's important to have great mentors. Never be afraid to ask questions -esp with fetal monitoring strips. I loved L&D because it was a team unit. If there was an emergency -you were never alone. We always helped each other out.

Congrats!!! I love posts like this, keeps my hopes up! :) I'm happy for you!
