I had to take a pre-assessment for a particular facility. I aced the clinical exams, but did not do well on the personality exams. So they declined to have me interview. I can't believe that they would not even consider interviewing me when I did well on the clinical aspect. The recruiter was shocked as well. She said it is very difficult to find an experienced ICU nurse who is willing to relocate and take a significant cut in pay($12 HR less for me). I was shocked too and disappointed in myself because I think I am a good person with a good personality. I'm hardworking, honest, dependable, and a team player and I answered those questions the right way I thought. Of course I chose I do not use drugs, drink, participate in sexual harassment, and am a team player. So how could one fail a personality test? So discouraged. I've been an ICU nurse for over 2 years and I worked hard for my license. I'm insulted that they didn't even want to meet me face to face before they made their decision based on a test. Well, their loss is all I can say because I'm a damn good ICU nurse who is there for her patients and co- workers.
Maybe they are not really hiring, and are just collecting resumes. You proved yourself on clinical, and failed a personality exam. That way, they have all of your info and do not have to hire. Therefore, should they decide to actually fill the position, or cut the pay for it even lower, they know you are competent, they "retest" you for personality, and then you miraculously pass. When they are actually hiring.fwiw, we had an ex-HR person in our RN class. She failed out in term 2 due solely to smoking, drinking, and personal problems. And maybe they caught her charting those made-up VS instead of doing the assessments, too. Sad case.
"Solely" to smoking, DRINKING, and personal problems:eek: (which can range from B.O. to borderline personality traits- or worse). If someone's drinking is effecting work, they NEED to be let go- and get help....but if they haven't done so (no mention if rehab was offered before firing), the hospital is protecting the public....
I don't know a lot of places that 'collect' resumes. It takes a lot of time/resources to weed through/process apps/resumes....jmo/e
New grad - think cost of living. Texas is a lot cheaper than NY. Also its about a different life style. Some peeps like 'them wide open spaces.' You don't know what beauty is until you see of herd of Longhorns or Angus moseying down to the water troughs at dusk as you step in a fresh cow pie.
Hey I live in Buffalo, NY, not NYC lol. The average income is under $30,000, the average price of a house is $66,000. Buffalo is poor so $27/hr goes a loooong way. And if you want to see beauty, go camping in the Adirondacks, go to the beaches of Lake Erie, or go see Niagara Falls. ;)
When I was a new grad, I applied with a health care system here numerous times for a wide variety of jobs. They were hiring many nurses. I could never get beyond the online application which included a personality test with the inane questions others have quoted. Since I went to a school with a great reputation in the community, was at the top of my class and have great references, I assumed it was the personality test.
Maybe 6 months later, I got a call from them asking if I was still interested in a job. Hmm, personality change??? Or maybe they finally realized that I had been their employee for 10 yrs until 15 months earlier (when I started the accelerated program) in a non-nursing postition (obviously) but one that required "personality," knowledge and people skills. I always had great reviews and my supervisors appreciated me. Maybe a real person looked at some apps that the computer threw out. How many great nurses were overlooked because of a stupid test?
America needs to Wake up!!!!! The government has been working with their buddies in the private sector compiling a data base of employees for years.... Eventualy we will all have a hirability score just like your CREDIT SCORE....SORRY NO JOB YOUR A 699 not a 700......
Actually I think that would be awesome. Think of all the losers and jerks in your workplaces that could be weeded out with this kind of scoring! People who call in a lot, low score. People who cause drama, low score. People who steal office supplies, low score. People who show up, keep their mouth shut, work hard and go home, high score. Seems like a great idea actually. I wonder why there really isn't such a thing.

I have family members that work for non-medical companies that take these psychological as well as critical thinking and manual tests (these were not factory labor jobs). A right fit BEFORE someone is hired makes perfect sense. BUT that shouldn't be the only criteria (psych test), still don't blame them. If you were really low on the score 50 vs. a 75 cut off would mean more to me than someone who scored 70 when 75 is a cut off.
