I recently took the teas test. The first time I took it I bombed the math portion completely with a 36. I studied hard for two weeks and retook the test. I felt nervous going into it but that is natural. I got a 70% on the math. I felt really good about that score and thought I passed but apparently I need a 76% on the test to pass. There are only 36 questions on the test! This is really bad. I need to wait another 4 months before I can retake it. I'm working on my prerequisite courses for now and I'm going to continue to study for the teas while I'm in school.
Any tips you can give me would be appreciated. I'm devastated and I tend to be pretty hard on myself. Please help me pass. Thank you for your help and support.

Relax and be thankful that you are not prevented from retesting. Approach this methodically. Look for a tutor or other help. Work hard at it. Good luck.
Do you think I can pass the test if I study for the next 4 months? I'm really sad.

At my school you have two attemps to pass the teas or else that was it!! I am so terrible in math so to prepare I bought a teas study guide and just went over the math questions over and over and over...
I don't think I've ever wanted something so much in my life. Thank you for your help. :loveya:

will they accept TEAS scores from another school? If so you can take it at another one in your area and submit it. This is for worst case scenerio.
Good luck!!
I haven't done that yet. Right now I'm going to stay on track and taking my prerequisite courses. I'm only taking one class which gives me plenty of time to study.
I'm just glad that I can take it again at all. This teas thing is kind of crazy. I've never heard of a test with a bar this high to just get into a program.
Well, another endless night of not being able to sleep because I couldn't pass the test. If I don't pass it a third time Im going to fall into such a deep depression. I know if I passed I would be able to get great grades its the standardized tests that will ruin me in the end. I need some words of encouragement. Maybe I'm just not good enough. Nothing makes sense anymore...I'm heart broken.
Hey, so I'm currently studying to be an ota but I'm thinking of giving the teas test another shot. Math is my weakest subject. What would you recommend me do to improve? Thanks for the help.

Check out khanacademy.org's website. He recently reorganized the Algebra/Math videos.
Hey, thanks Hoosier. Whenever I have free time I've been using khan academy to work on my math.
I think I'm approaching math as a whole wrong. How do you go about studying for a math test like this? Hours a day? Do you work on everything or just what you need the most help with?
I had to withdrawal from Math 035 @ Ivy Tech recently due to my failing grade. I graduated from h.s. in 1987 and didn't take Algebra back then. In Math 015 this past fall, I passed with a C, but it took me over half of the semester just to get the gist of it. I keep telling everyone that "Math is a four-letter word!" LOL
As for your ? on how to approach studying for this, I would go over the entire math subject(s) starting with the basics, making some simple flash cards using index cards, card stock paper, etc. and building up your learning. I would concentrate more on the tough ones and practice till the cows come home until you get the concept down. I'm having trouble w/these types of things myself, so I definitely know where you're coming from.
I thought it might be a good idea to
a) Study Salman Khan's algebra lessons as he has them
b) Compare his grouping of lessons to what my Math 015 and Math 035 Algebra book's Table of Contents look like and try to organize studying that way. I am going to take the bull by the horns and study from the beginning: the number line, negative numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, conversions, etc. as we didn't really do this in Math 015.
The reason that our Math 015 Algebra book was broken down into 'throwing you into algebra right away' is because the powers that be redid the book. In order to compete and stay ahead of the high school clan, they have to 'up the ante', so to speak. My husband's niece went to Ivy Tech a few years back, and I have the book that she used at the time. It was arranged differently than what the books are now. The books are developed for the Ivy Tech curriculum.
If I were studying for the TEAS test, I would make notes of what other posters have mentioned on this site regarding what type of math problems have been seen on the TEAS.
I've posted the link below to the URL containing this information.

I'm copying useful information into Microsoft OneNote. Since I've discovered what it's all about, I fell in love with the program. I use it in English class to keep track of what's going on. I didn't really use it in Math, though, nor Psychology.
I just recently withdrew from Anatomy & Physiology 101 at Ivy Tech. I don't know if my memory is up to challenge regarding all of this memorizing! I may try gingko biloba and see what that does. Bought a bottle of Prevagen (prevagen.com) recently but haven't really noticed any major improvements where my memory is concerned...
PM me if you get a chance. I'm wishing you well in your endeavors!
