I got a job

Published

As most college students do, I have been looking for a summer job. Since I'm a nursing major, I wanted to do something nursing related. My first choice, being a hospital aide fell through as did my second and third choices, also in medical facilities.

Because of this, I figured that I would be back in retail (I can't do food service). In the past 2 days, I have applied to 8 stores and I was hoping to have a job within 2 weeks.

Well...last night, one of the women from my church called me and offered me a job in her and her husband's dental office. She said I would be doing things like sterilizing supplies and instruments and cleaning rooms etc. along with some paperwork/filing and that she would teach me all about infection control and whatnot.

I am so stoked! This will be just about perfect considering that the jobs really related to my major didn't work out. It's in a health care setting, the right number of hours per week (24, and I was looking for about 20-28), and with bosses who I love! I'll also be getting $8/hour which is totally decent for someone only a year removed from high school with no experience or certifications.

Also, with this job I'll learn some things that will transfer over into my classes/clinicals next semester so it's good.

I'm meeting with the woman on Monday to go through and finalize things grin.gif

Today was better for a couple of reasons:

1) It was the second day.

2) My boss wasn't there.

3) I got more help than just being told what to do.

I'm still not thrilled...but maybe by the end of the week it'll work out okay.

How is your job going? Is it better now?

I quit...well, kinda.

I talked things over with my boss, and we mutually decided that the job just wasn't really the right fit for me, so I'm no longer working at the office.

Wow that was fast. At least now you will have more time to study.

I'm sorry it didn't work out. I'm sure something better will come along. Good luck!

Yeah -- it was...but I'm a very social person and it was a very solitary job. It's no biggie.

And more time to study? Heh...not really. I've since gotten 2 other jobs, so I'll still have the same amount of time.

I have to work...that's not an option.

Thats rough. Especially with taking A&P. No way I could take this class and take care of my kids + work.

It shouldn't be too bad.

Last semester I was taking A&P I along with English 200, Religion 200, Philosophy 201 and History 104...and on top of that, I was a tour guide for my school so every Monday I gave a tour, I subbed when other tour guides needed, and I helped with all of the admissions events. Add on being a social butterfly and being in choir (which actually technically is a class) and a couple of clubs and there you have my life.

If all I'm doing is taking 1 class and working ~30 hours a week I'll be fine.

Sorry to read that the job didn't work out.

Sounds like you had a pretty full schedule as it was.

What I posted that I was doing before was last semester (the spring semester). This summer, all I have is A&P II and work. Not too much at all.
