I Got Accepted To Chamberlain Nursing Program For Oct. 2006!!!!

Published

:balloons: I just found out that I got into the nursing program for Oct. 2006 @ Chamberlain College of Nursing in St.Louis formerly known as Deaconess College of Nursing. I'm so excited I will finally get to make a move towards my degree and hopefully soon be an RN. My advisor said that I will get my package next week. Good Luck to all that have applied & I hope to make new friends & see new faces in St.Louis.

Future RN, Carolyn

let the church say amen 'cause babygirl is in there!!! (after finally handling up on her business) :thankya:

i was considering del mar here in texas but my chemistry wouldn't transfer and i really didn't want to take another chemistry so...chamberlain/deaconess here i am!

i think it's cool their online program has an lpn component. i'm thinking about sitting for nclex-pn while trotting right on through to rn. working as an lvn would give me valuable experience to succeed in the rn program.

thank god for distance education! :bowingpur :w00t:

congratulations i'm so excited that you got in to the program as well. if you need a study partner or need any help please don't hesitate to ask, you can email me anytime. i got in as well for oct. 2006. are you going to plan on driving to st.louis, the reason i'm asking is because i will be driving to st.louis on our validations and if you want to travel together it would be great. i really don't want to travel by my self and i'm up for any car pooling and splitting the cost of a motel. if you like just email me and we can study, talk and help each other through our journey. i live in oklahoma by the way.

future friends,

Congratulations to all of you who just got accepted into Chamberlain! :w00t: How great it is to be on the cutting edge of education.

I am in my first term right now and am still working on my "flow." Some advice from a newbie: distance education is not without it's challenges so be patient, work hard, DON'T fall behind on your reading, and most of all stay positive.

Good luck to all of you who are in and to those still waiting to hear!

I haven't yet decided on the commute for skills testing. It depends on how much time off I can get from my employer and when my actual skills test is (Is it Thurs - Sun or one day out of the four?). I'm thinking most likely I would fly because I'd probably be too worn out for my regular job from driving. We could definitely split a hotel and be study buddies!

Keep in touch and GOOD LUCK on your nursing career!

Can I ask you something? Are you able to take the NCLEX in Tx or do you have to test in Missouri then apply for licensure in Texas . Just curious was thinking about doing this program but stalled and freaked when I thought about how I was going to get my license here to Tx.

I asked my admissions rep about this exact thing. I asked if I would have to endorse in Texas after being licensed in Missouri. The rep said no. Their program is recognized by Texas and I would be able to sit for the NCLEX in Texas and be licensed in Texas.

I'm awaiting my admissions package to verify the verbal information. I'll let you know what it says.

Can you tell me more about this program. I had considered it at one time but freaked and backed out. OK, you go to the school and do a skill check off every semester, is that right. And when you go how long do you stay? Then you find your own precepter or will they assist you with that kinda thing. I dont really understand the classes that are involved here the web site is kinda fuzzy for LVN's. I have all my BSN classes done so Im not really worried about Pre-classes but I cant figure how many actual nursing classes are involved. And the classes are online right.. Sorry to sound so dumb!! Any info would be appreciated....

I just did some research on the TX BNE site. It's looks like the admissions rep is correct! "Deaconess College of Nursing - Online" is listed as an eligible program for initial Texas PN licensure. "Deaconess College of Nursing - Online - ADN" is listed as a program eligible for initial licensure as well! YES!

You asked about the number of days we spend in MO for skills check off. I'm unclear about that myself but I'll find out soon and report back but yes, skills check off are at the end of the semesters.

I've read other posts that said students are assisted with finding preceptors and I'm pretty sure about that but I'll have the details soon.

The curriculum is available on the website. I can't recall the specifics right now but I know I only have a 4 hour nursing course my first semester.

If students desire to obtain their PN, they must declare their intentions at the beginning of their studies. I intend to and I'm estimating I could sit for the NCLEX-PN Fall 2007.

Classes are online. I don't know the details of the interface the school uses but I've taken an online course before with no problem. My class was scheduled to meet in a chatroom at specific times and discuss material assigned by our instructor. We could email the instructor anytime.

I'm still on cloud nine about my acceptance! :D

Uh-oh. Put the champagne on hold for a sec. I was misreading the information on BNE's site. If I find the correct info, I'll post the link to it. In the meantime, feel free to...:trout:

I would be doing the LVN to RN bridge but I also looked at the BON site and it states that if the school is accepted by that states BON then it will be by Texas. Does that make sense ? lol lol Anyway I figured out what classes I need to take and what I dont need to take. I guess I need to talk to an admissions person. How many times a year do they accept students. I hear it can be a rat race. . I am more concerned about traveling to the school at the end of each semester and what my husband will say about it. Let me know if you get some more good info .

Hi, I have been emailing with an admissions rep at chamberlain but cannot get answers to any of my questions. I have pm'd one of the gals here but want to put this out to the thread as well. Here are my questions.

1) how is this whole thing set up? how often are clinicals? which classes have clinicals? can clinicals be scheduled in lumps (for people who might have to travel 4hours to a clinical site) so I can do a bunch in a row of days ? do you understand what I mean?

2) you all mention check off trips to the college. are these in addition to the clinical hours? they are at the end of every semester is that right?

3) I guess I just need lots more info on how his actually works, all of the clinical stuff that is. I already have a BS business that I did online so I am very experienced with onine. I also did most of my prequisites online. I have all of the general ed done too. just need the nursing courses. Can anyone give me a good explanation of how the online ASN program works here?

thank you very much. I am kind of frustrated right now.

Ill tell you what I know.. and it aint much.lol First the classes are online is regular semester format. The clinicals the student sets up with a hospital in your area and from what I understand it must be a full service hospital with med-surg , ob/gyn and peds. You must visit the college in St Louis at the end of every semester to do a clinical check off with the instructors , From what I understand the stay in St Louis is about 4 days. There are six visits for the ADN students and three for the LVN to RN students. I did a online search here and read through every thread that had to do with Chamberlin/Deaconess and some of the infor may have changed .. people fell free to correct me, Im still learning. One person on here Opal RN graduated from this school and seemed very helpful with her post maybe you can PM her . ALthough Im not sure if she is still a all-nurses member it is worth a try. This sounds like a great program as long as you check with the your BON,can set up your own clinicals and can make the 4 day trip to the school. One thing I keep hearing over and over again is see if you can find the opportunity to do your clinical before you apply. I think you have to have this in place when you get accepted. Plus it is just one more headache to get rid of. I am a LVN and I think I am going to see if I can get a contract deal for after I graduate . You know let me do clinical here and Ill work for you as a RN for X amount to time. I did here something about the school helping you find a preceptor but I cant confirm that to be 100% true. I also have all my pre-classes and other general ed classes done and just need nursing. What I want to know is since Im going 3 semesters and taking 2 classes per semesters can I take 4 classes per semester and be done in 2 semesters insead of 3. I know clinical will be double but I can handle it. Im a work a holic. Good luck and let me know if you find any info to be different that what I have posted.....
