Hi all,

Today I got my acceptance letter for NCC's nursing program. I'm sooo happy, excited and, of course, a little nervous, but I've waited 1/2 lifetime for this opportunity. Thanks to everyone that gave me encouragement and support along the way at allnurses. love.png

Good luck and best wishes to all those that will apply or that are waiting to hear. Happy Holidays!:redpinkhe:yeah:

Natingale, I'm starting 105 in a couple weeks. In your opinion, with the workload, should I knock sociology and my humanities requirement out the same semester?

Honestly I'd rather take them over the summer, but is it worth it for health insurance purposes?

Thanks.

Theyve changed 105 a bit --but the process records are still sophisticated, then you have papers (reports) to do on top of that. I'd do sociology over the summer, thats just me. Fluids and Electrolytes will occupy any brain space and energy so I dont want you to jeopardize everything you've worked so hard to accomplish this far. I had a classmate who did well and also did A&P II with 105. So, to each is own I guess. Ha unless you want to do Art, like ceramics to bang out ur humanities

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I've decided to go for sociology and a 0.5 credit course. I'll see how it goes, I definitely feel I'm up for the task though.

And if you have any books you want to sell, please PM me.

woot! i definitely will. for 105 u definitely want to get another pathophysiology book, i got one from mccance from like 2002 and it was my bible, or PHIPPS. I think I spent 75 cents for the mccance patho book and 3 dollars for shipping, the phipps one was like 60 dollars :(

Yeah PM me with any questions, this post went down the bunny hole. Congrats again dibbs haha

Hi everyone! I JUST found out I was accepted to NCC pending an interview!! I am SOOO happy I still cant belive it!!!

How is the interview, what is it like? Will I receive any paperwork that day to order uniforms or registration stuff that day?

I also read during the interview they give a test and an essay, is this true? Is it hard?

Congrats Kuklara!! Yippee! Don't worry about the interview.. it's basically a formality. Only if a person does not understand English at a minimum basic level would it be a big deal. Here's how mine was in December. It is in three part

1. The whole class meets as a whole and is addressed my the director of the program and goes over the orientation packet. It will tell you what textbooks to get, where to order uniforms from and what you need for your physical. Then the class does a written assignment. First part is to define 10 words and write them in a sentence. They are not hard words... this is where minimum basic understanding of English comes in.... words like align, primary, temperature

Second part of the writing assignment is to write an essay on why you want to become a nurse. They are just looking to see if it's comprehensible and you can write clearly.

2. Then as you complete your paper you go into another room and present your citizenship/ immigration documents... i.e birth certificate and passport pr whatever you need according to your situation. A faculty member will look at your writing assignments and maybe ask you one question about it.

3. Then as you complete that you go to another room and it is the "critical thinking " part of the interview. They give you a paper with a scenario on it. Like what would you do if you requested off from work and you didn't get off but your daughter was in a school play that day. Define the problem and list 2 thing you could do to solve it. When you're finished a faculty member reviews your paper and asks you something. Then another faculty member will ask you another question... like what would you do if a doctor yelled at you in the clinical setting.

If you pass all these things... and you WILL..You go to another room and someone reviews your transcripts for what classes you still need to take to graduate and fills out your registration forms to take the registrar and you're finished.

Some people wore suits some people wore jeans... doesn't matter. Just follow directions and stay cool.

You can private message me if you have any other questions

Karenanda

Karenanda thank you SO much! You mentioned they will tell me what I need for a physical. Do I have to get an actual physical done by the school or are you talking about the MMR paperwork and all that which says I am in good health.

Is there anything I should bring with me when I go? How long will I be there for?

Once again I really appreciate everything. What type of uniform do you have to wear? All white pants and shirt I am guessing with white shoes?

They will tell you everything they want from you at the interview. GOOD LUCK! It's going to be a crazy two years!

My daughter is still waiting to hear from NCC.....they said the letters were going to be mailed out at the end of April.....last call made to school said end of week. I am guessing by April 30th?

Anyone else waiting to hear from NCC?

I see someone here already heard ..... ....My daughter has taken the pre-req classes...at NCC

The waiting to hear is nerve wacking

Hello Karenanda. Thank you for the information you provided about the nursing program interview. It is a great relief to have an idea of what I am going to go through. You mentioned that the second part of the writing portion is an essay as to why you want to be a nurse. Aside from the normal answers of - to help people, to give back to the community, - are their specific answers they are looking for? I interviewed for the surgical technology program and when asked why I wanted to go into that particular field, they took my answers and one by one tried to show me that surgical technology is not really what I want to do. That I don't have to be in this field to help people or to give back. Does anyone have a really good answer that can stick and won't be bent to mean something else? Karenanda, what did you write? What questions did they ask you on your essay?

Secondly, my overall GPA is a 3.87. My prerequeste GPA is a 4.0 but I had to retake A&P1. I also have a few W's. If I have already been accepted to the nursing program, do you think they will grill me on my transcript or will they ask a few questions to in order to get clarity?

Thank you again for your help and advice. Have a good one.

Hi Joshua,

They didn't ask about past grades at all and I had a few blemishes on my transcript also. Consider yourself in. They will only tell you what classes you need to still take to graduate.

About the essay, the professor that read it wrote "clear and comprehensible" on it . I don't recall what she asked me if anything but there's no write answer... don't sweat it... just don't write "I want easy access to narcotics" LOL

My impression is that they are only looking to see if you can express yourself clearly. You might not get the same question as we did. And as to what I wrote.. like so many assignments in college..... make it up if you don't know and tell them what they want to hear. I wrote something along this lines that I wanted to be able to make a difference in people lives and that nurses have made such a difference in events in my life. .. but just write what feels good to you and read it back to make sure it's clear.

Just be calm... take deep breathes.. and congrats!

Thanks Karenanda. I appreciate the advice and information. Have a good one.
