I got my acceptance letter for Cypress College Fall 2010

Published

Did anyone else get one. I'm looking to get to know some people for a study-group. All my friends got in last semester.

haha yay! Hopefully our 31 dollars and something cents pays off =)

Yeah i'm going to get my physicals at Cypress, I haven't secured health insurance yet since I got laid off, so it's the best way for me to go. Not looking forward to my shots =X

Do you have your CPR certificate already? Or does anyone have a recommendation on where they got theirs?

Physicals at Cypress Health Center are sooo easy & quick, I really recommend it!! Plus if you ever get sick... I went in there with strep, you get an awesome NP to see you & FREE antibiotics on site! Love it! (Everyone has to pay the $15 health fee, why not take advantage!)

And wait for your CPR guys, if you join CNSA (California Nursing Students Association -which if you're in the program you should!) they offer a CPR course for $25! It will be in the afternoon of Family Night in January! (You'll get info at orientation!) That's an awesome deal, classes range from $65+ if you take them else where!

Yes! You're a lifesaver! I want to reach through the screen and give you a nice hug :D

I don't remember where I heard it from (probably an info session) that cypress will use the latest version. I heard versions 3 and4 are similar, and version 5 has more stuff and is a little more difficult.

I heard they use the latest version as well so I ordered V5... then I read that people actually talked to the counselors who told them they use v 3/4... So I bought that too. I know I'm freaking crazy to do so but I'll just be extra prepared for what I've read is actually nothing to worry about haha.

Does anyone knows how the deferring a semester works? Do I just need to write a letter? I have family issues so I cannot start in this Spring. How do I know when I can start in the Fall 11? Thanks

Just contact Darlene Fishman (nursing director) and she will let you know exactly how it works! She's great & very supportive, so don't worry about giving her a call!

Does anyone know the turn around time for the background check? I'm an alternate and sorta waiting as long as a can to hear about my status before I have to spend the $60. Also, is it valid for a certain period of time? Just curious in case I'm not taken in this spring and I have to go spend another $60 for the fall.

I believe the background checks take around a week to get back to you. (That's IF you have nothing on your record!) Unfortunately the background checks are only valid for the term in which you are applying. And will last if you go right through the program. I have heard of people needing to re-do background checks if they step out a semester.

However, if you are an alternate they do give you a bit of slack when it comes to all the paper work you need to turn in. You don't go to clinical right away, you'll be solely in the classroom 4-5 days a week for the first 3 weeks, so I'm sure even if you ordered it first day of school you'd be ok. (But do it as soon as you know!)

The main reason they do is because they do a much more extensive background check when you apply to take your boards - so if you can't pass the first round background check, you definitely wouldn't pass the one for boards & what would be the point of even doing the program if you can get your license!

Also make sure you're on best behavior once you get into program - something like a DUI can ruin your professional career!

When you get the background check back, are you allowed to see it? Or does it have to be sealed, like college transcripts. I'm positive that nothing shady is on there obviously, but who knows, they might screw up 0=)

You don't actually get anything back from the company if you pass. You get a pass/no pass certificate like thing emailed to you. I would guess if you had issues you would get to see... Darlene Fishman would help clear things up. She told us she actually calls hospitals to see if they would hire someone with such and such a problem on their record to see how to proceed!

I did have a friend who had something funky show up that she thought had been taken care of in another state - but she was able to get things worked out and continued on with barely a bump in the road!

I ordered my background check the day I got the letter and was able to view the results roughly a week later. There is an option to print an official certificate which is what I'm assuming they want you to do. From what I read I believe the background check is good for 90 days... so I may have to order a new one come the time it expires (Sometimes it doesn't pay off to jump the gun haha)

I don't remember when I ordered it, but it couldn't have been too far after yours. I haven't received it yet, hopefully will soon =X
