Hi, I just moved in Burlington North Carolina from Rock Hill South Carolina. I am so desperate!. I need a CNA job bad, but it seems that nobody is hiring in this area. I almost applied to all LTC facilities in Burlington area. I don't know whats' goin on? Is it me or the CNA field?
This never happens to me. In the past, everytime I applied, I got hired.
please advice!!!!!!!!!
Even though I'm not in the nursing field, I am planning to attend ECPI hopefully in June and I can relate to your problem! Let me tell you that it's been difficult for both my sister and I to find a job here in NC and we're both in the clerical field. We moved to Raleigh from Miami like month ago and it's been difficult for us to find a job even through an temp agency!!!!!! In Miami you go through a temp agency and you're pretty much working that week if not the next day!! They have a lot of job openings available, but the hiring process here is very slow and they do not take into consideration that people have bills to pay!
I spoke to a friend last week, her kids live in NC and have been there for years, all have good jobs but they remarked to their mother how things have slowed down in NC. Daughter is teacher, SIL is postal worker but they too have stated how the job market is not as good as it was last year. Just sign up with every agency you can. Look in the papers, be open to doing something different to bring the money in until things get better. Walmart may be an option in some areas, so too is waitressing. SIL mother is a medical worker but she moonlights on the side at a local bar because the cost of living has gotten so high. Motels are hiring workers.
Good luck.
I hear ya! We have applied at a few temp agencies and also applied through Craiglist and at the hospitals and still.....nothing! We did apply at Bed Bath & Beyond and even a 7.50 an hour job is hard to get! I'll keep trying for 1 more month, if I don't get a job I will be moving back to Miami. I need to pay my car soon plus all of my other bills. Thank you so much for your support and best of luck to you as well~ Hope you find something soon!

Go to one of the local universities and sign up with THEIR temp pool. NC State, UNC, and Duke all have one. When I first came back to the US from Saudi in 2002, all the dot-coms had just gone bust, so there was essentially NOTHING around here. I papered the Park, so to speak, with resume after resume with no real luck. I went to UNC's temp agency at my sister's suggestion and had a job in a week; Duke actually called me the day I accepted a position at UNC. (And just to clarify, this was before I became an RN.)
Also, call up Glaxo. I think they have a similar thing at their company; I know they have short-term contract work and that might be enough to tide you over.
Plus - STAY ON THESE PEOPLE. Keep calling. If there's one person bringing in a resume, there's fifty. Call them every day and politely ask if they've had any luck drumming up interest in you. That's their job - but you have to stay on them.
Thanks to all for your comments and support! I have a job now! I'm actually working at one of the many job agencies I visited while job hunting. I'm doing translations because I'm bilingual and I'm also doing recruiting for the Latin community. The pay is lower than what I was getting paid in Miami, but it's a job and it has potential and room for growth! I started today and it went well, and like nursing I get to help people who are just like me when I was looking for a job!! Thank you again for your support!

You didn't say you were bilingual! Have you heard of El Centro Hispano in Durham? They are always looking for more volunteers if you have time. Call them up; they sometimes have clinics at the center and could use help, if for nothing else just to translate! I got involved with them through one of my professors at Duke. They are a great, friendly bunch of people; I think you'd enjoy working with them if you have some free time.
I know the City of Durham is DESPERATE for bilingual 911 operators, too, and if you're living in Raleigh I bet they need them too.
At any rate, congrats! Glad to hear you're getting back on your feet. I've been there too and know how hard and discouraging it can be! :heartbeat:redbeathe

Not sure if you're interested in working for an agency or not, but Bayada and Maxim Healthcare have ads on Careerbuilder for CNA's in Burlington. May be a good opportunity for you to get your foot in the door somewhere.
Good luck to you. I hope you find something soon.
